A Great Place to Unwind | Maayong Hostel of Moalboal, Cebu

Recently I and my wife went to Moalboal, Cebu for a short staycation since she filed a work leave for a week. Just to unwind from her stressful office work, and every time we talked about a staycation we brainstorm about where we should go and the duration of our stay. Since we both love going to beaches we decided to go to Moalboal. By then we started looking for a place to stay, upon searching online there were a lot of beautiful resorts to choose from but we both wanted to stay in a place where the beach is just a walking distance so that we can have swimming or stroll at the shoreline anytime if we want.

Of all the resorts we queried, plus the good reviews online we ended at Maayong Hostel. In fact, we really liked their tropical setup, especially the ambiance of the place, and the beach is just a 5 minutes walk from the hostel as well so it's a win-win choice hostel.

Look at their tropical bungalow setup. Here in the Philippines we usually call this a
Bahay-Kubo native house to Philippine cultures. And of course, we chose to stay in their native bungalow house since it's just the two of us, actually, their native house is good for two people only. But the hostel offers dormitory rooms as well if you are in a group.

Look how relaxing the ambiance of the hostel was during the night. The native hut has its own mini balcony as well, wherein my wife really loves to stay there during the night as she feels very relaxed, likely because of the ambiance of the place considering that the place is away from the main road so there's no noise coming from vehicles at all.

Across the native hut is their lounge area, resto, and pub too, and still made from native
materials which make it tropical vibes as well. With cozy bean bags on the lounge and a hammock attached to the poles.

Anyways, inside the hut is a spacious room and a cozy queen size bed, it has an aircon and a fan as well. What makes it even more tropical feels is its semi-outdoor bathroom as it is an open roof with a half concrete cover and the walls are made from coconut palms.

There are only 3 native huts in Maayong Hostel and these 3 huts have their own room name, Kahapsay is where we stayed which translates into English as tidy or orderly. The other two rooms were named Paglaum which means Hope and Kalipay which means Happiness. These rooms were inexpensive actually we only paid 3000 Php for 2 nights about 50 US dollars more or less.

Paglaum - Hope
Kalipay- Happiness

And this is their resto, two thumbs up for their flavorful food, they actually offer a quiet number of foreign cuisines and yet with affordable prices. So with their bar which offers happy hour on Friday and Saturday where you get a chance to avail of their buy 1 take 1 beer a happy hour indeed.

Overall, our stay in Maayong Hostel is superb, if ever I had the chance to come back to Moalboal definitely I'll still choose Maayong Hostel. But the best thing with Maayong Hostel is the hospitality and service of their staff. Not to mention the owners are very friendly they always accommodate you with a smile. They have an FB page actually Maayong Hostel you might consider the hostel if you wanted a staycation in Moalboal.

It's quite beautiful and very comfortable, and it looks like a hut but it's very luxurious even though it's small, I think it's really nice to spend a lot of time there... 😊

I love how cozy this place looks, and the outdoor bath is 💯

Is the place usually crowded during weekends?

My partner and I are also planning to go to the beach this weekend but I find it hard to choose which place to visit, but now I think I know where. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely check this one out.

Hi @yzamazing not sure tho if its crowded during weekends since we stayed weekdays time, I think it will be crowded once they had an acoustic night.

I see, I'll go ahead and message their fb page. Thanks again for sharing.

It seems like a great place to have a relaxing vacation in a natural location, the photos looks beautiful
