Visiting The Century Old Buildings Of Argao, Cebu | San Miguel Arcangel Church And Argao's Hall of Justice

in Pinmapple2 years ago

Yesterday I accompanied my wife going to Argao, Cebu in relation to her work. Argao is located in the southern part of Cebu province and is very well-known for its delicacy the La Torta de Argao a sweet pastry that is prepared in a unique way which makes it even more special.

Aside from its sweet delicacy, Argao is also rich in history from church to their Governing buildings such as the Municipals hall of justice.

Let me share some of the snaps that I took from their San Miguel Arcangel Church and the Hall of Justice which both structures were made from coral stones.

Here's a brief history of the church:

San Miguel Arcangel Church of Argao is a beautiful church built as Baroque Rococo structure. Its construction commenced in 1734 and was completed in 1788. It seems like old churches are genuinely constructed with great sincerity and proficiencies.

The church is built adjacent to the Argao Town Plaza and other heritage structures such as the Casa Real, Capilla Mortuario, Paso or Way of the Cross wall, and Hall of Justice building. You should know by now that Spanish authorities centralize everything in this way for accessibility to various governance system.

As you can see, the church's beautiful architecture with the coral stones carved with the image of St. Micheal, with its large pedestal flanking doors that have impressive dimensions as well.

Aside from their more than century-old church they also had these governing buildings that have impressive architecture as well, these are the legislative building and their Hall of Justice building which were once used as military barracks during the Spanish and Japanese occupation.

At the front of their Hall of Justice building, there were two antique cannon barrels which are now being displayed on their plaza that were believed to be once used during the Spanish era.

It is believed that the current Hall of Justice building has once functioned as a school that was administered by the church worker, which the building structure somehow alike with the church that was made from coral stones and clay tile roof as well.
