Hello everyone, I hope you are doing great. As I mentioned in my previous post, last Saturday I visited three more monasteries on Fruska gora mountain. After visiting the Mala Remeta monastery, we headed towards the Jazak monastery, which is located a few kilometers from there.
When we got closer to this monastery, I became more and more emotional because I remembered the moments from the past when I visited this place with my parents. After the sudden death of my father, every moment we shared hurts and makes me happy at the same time, so remembering this place causes both sadness and happiness in me. Especially because nothing has changed here and time seems to stand still. There is even a self-service stand with beautiful aromatic apples.
I love that moment of trust between the stand owner and the people passing by. You measure the apples yourself and leave the money in the box. We bought a kilo of apples and continued our journey.
We reached the monastery. The environment was incredibly peaceful and quiet. You can even hear yourself breathing.
Jazak is one of the most beautiful and significant cultural monuments on the Fruska gora mountain and in Serbia as well.
I entered the gate.
The yard was very neat and nicely decorated.
The path leads you to another door where you must ring the bell so that the nuns know you are there.
From the moment I entered there, I felt as if I was entering another world, isolated from reality.
Although I'm not very religious, I respect places like this and admire their durability over the centuries.
This monastery was built in the 18th century on the foundations of an old monastery that was built before. Like the other monasteries I wrote about, this one suffered a lot of damage, but it was preserved by the efforts of those who found the meaning of life in faith.
In the central part there is a temple, built in traditional and baroque style, and around the temple there are monastery quarters where nuns live and take care of this place.
I wasn't properly dressed to enter the temple, but a kind nun gave me a skirt because for some reason it wasn't appropriate to wear pants. And then we went inside.
The interior is very elegant. The large chandeliers caught my attention.
There were also many icons that are of great historical value.
After visiting the monastery, we went out and took the road to the spring for which this place is famous. It is the source of the "Jazak" water, which is very beneficial for people's health.
Here people come very often to get water and sometimes you have to wait in line. We poured one bottle and headed further along the road to the Ravanica monastery, which I will write about in my next post.
