Since the beginning of the year, I had a good feeling about Italy. Many things in my personal life and work revolved around this country, which I had never visited. Then, in mid-August, I received the wonderful news that a small group of singers would be performing concerts in various parts of Rome, and that my wife and I were part of it... Yes, it was originally a work commitment, but we certainly found the time to explore the city in detail, perhaps sacrificing a few hours of sleep 😅 Since childhood, I'd dreamed of visiting this place, which, besides being one of the 7 wonders of the modern world, has an impressive popularity in pop culture that makes it one of the most visited places. It was actually quite complicated for us to schedule our visit, but the spoiler is: We did it!!! 😎 Don't miss the video I shared above!!!
Desde inicios de año tenía un buen presentimiento con Italia, muchas cosas en mi vida personal y en mi trabajo giraban en torno a este país, el cual nunca había visitado, y fue a mediados de Agosto cuando me dieron la grata noticia de que una pequeña selección de cantantes tendría algunos conciertos en varias regiones de Roma y que mi esposa y yo éramos parte de eso... Sí, originalmente era un compromiso laboral, pero vaya que encontramos el tiempo para conocer la ciudad a detalle, quizás sacrificando algunas horas de sueño 😅 Desde niño soñé con conocer este lugar, que además de ser una de las 7 maravillas del mundo moderno, tiene una popularidad impresionante en la cultura pop que lo hace uno de los lugares más visitados, y de hecho fue algo complicado para nosotros programar nuestra visita, pero el spoiler es que: Lo Logramos!!! 😎 ¡No te pierdas el video que he compartido arriba!.
Although it's always possible to visit this historic building without much planning, we wanted to be sure we could get in, so we scheduled our visit a month in advance. The only helpful information we had about our work schedule was that we probably wouldn't have any rehearsals or concerts that day. In fact, it was me who convinced my wife and friends to take the plunge and buy tickets, since they sell out so quickly. The good thing is that we actually had that day off work, and visiting the Colosseum was the first thing we did when we arrived in Rome. Similarly, if you're planning a trip to Rome and intend to visit the Colosseum, the recommendation is to buy your tickets in advance to avoid queues or the few remaining tickets for the general public.
Aunque siempre hay posibilidades de visitar esta histórica edificación sin tanta planificación, nosotros queríamos asegurar que pudiéramos entrar, así que tuvimos que programar nuestra visita con un mes de anticipación, y la única información a favor que teníamos sobre nuestro itinerario de trabajo era que posiblemente ese día no tendríamos ni ensayos, ni conciertos; de hecho fui yo quien convenció a mi esposa y a mis amigos de atrevernos a comprar, ya que las entradas se agotan muy rápido. Lo bueno es que realmente tuvimos ese día libre de trabajo y de hecho conocer el Coliseo fue lo primero que hicimos al llegar a Roma. De igual manera, si piensas viajar a Roma y tienes la intención de visitar el Coliseo, la recomendación es comprar tus entradas con anticipación, y así evitar colas o que se agoten las pocas entradas que quedan para el público en general.
The Colosseum is very, very large. It's divided into many areas, such as the arena, the underground levels, the first and second levels, and the attic. The best ticket you can buy to visit most of these areas is the Full Experience ticket, but it sells out the fastest on the official website. When I tried to buy tickets, I only had two options. The first was the Arena Only ticket, but besides only allowing access to this area, you can only stay in the building for 20 minutes. The second option, which we decided to buy, was the Colosseum - Roman Forum & Palatine Hill 24-hour ticket. With this ticket, we visited the two intermediate levels, allowing us to see the upper area and the underground levels up close. We were also able to visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, which I hope to share with you later, as we did so the following day. This ticket is quite good, and we only paid 18 euros last October.
El Coliseo es muy, muy grande. Está dividido en muchas zonas, como la arena, los subterráneos, primer y segundo nivel, y el ático, y la mejor entrada que puedes adquirir para visitar la mayoría de estos sitios es la entrada Full Experience, pero es la que más se agota en el sitio web oficial. Cuando intenté comprar entradas, solo tuve dos opciones; la primera de ellas era la entrada Solo Arena, pero además de solo entrar a esta zona, el tiempo que se puede estar en la edificación son solo 20 minutos. La segunda opción, y la que decidimos pagar fue la entrada Colosseo - Foro Romano Palatino 24 hrs, con la cual visitamos los dos niveles intermedios, pudiendo apreciar de cerca la zona superior y la zona de los subterráneos, además de que pudimos visitar el Foro Romano y el Palatino que espero compartir con ustedes más adelante, ya que lo hicimos al día siguiente. Esta entrada no está nada mal, y solo pagamos 18 euros el pasado mes de Octubre.
The interior of the building is a large museum that shares a bit of the history of the Colosseum and Imperial Rome. Yes, the place looks deteriorated compared to its former glory, but for a structure that is over 1,000 years old and has survived earthquakes and wars, it's very impressive to see it still standing. The day we visited it was very crowded, but it seems that's how it is on a normal day, as it probably receives around 2,000 people a day, according to some YouTubers. Despite the crowds, you can have a pleasant time, take photos, and enjoy the seagulls that accompany the tourists on their stroll. We had the pleasure of visiting on a sunny day, and from the Colosseum walls themselves, which overlook different parts of the city, you can appreciate some very special views. And that was just from the second level; I imagine you can see much more of Rome from the top.

El interior de la edificación es un gran museo que comparte un poco de la historia del Coliseo y de la Roma imperial. Sí, el lugar se ve deteriorado respecto a lo que fue en su momento, pero para una estructura que tiene más de 1000 años y que ha sobrevivido a terremotos y guerras es muy impresionante ver que se mantenga de pie. El día que lo visitamos había demasiada gente, pero parece que así son los días normales, ya que posiblemente recibe a unas 2000 personas al día, según algunos youtubers. A pesar de la cantidad de personas, se puede pasar un rato ameno, tomar fotografías y disfrutar de las gaviotas que acompañan a los turistas en su paseo. Tuvimos el placer de visitarlo en un día soleado y desde los mismos muros del coliseo que dan hacia distintas zonas de la ciudad se puede apreciar paisajes muy especiales, y eso que solo subí hasta el segundo nivel, me imagino que en el ático se puede apreciar mucho más de Roma.
Those who know Rome and are reading this today know that it's a special city; it's like walking through a vast museum. Everywhere you turn, you can appreciate art and architecture, although for me, those two are one and the same. The Roman Colosseum is an icon of the city, but also an icon of the world. I think of all the people who experienced it in its glory days and all those who have visited it, and knowing that we were there too feels wonderful. I never know if I'll return to a place, although I always intend to, but just in case, I make sure to savor every second, to feel, touch, and breathe in every place I visit.
