RE: Utrecht - City with a Heart

in Pinmapple2 months ago

What a wonderful experience to visit, meeting fellow South African Hiver's while out and about to simply connect and say hello.

Exploring interesting places with names we able to relate to, makes one feel more at home in a foreign country, not so?

Brilliant photography sharing places you managed, comforting to know you visited the church, able to write a prayer, light a candle remembering Arthur was with you on your journey one way or another.

When I look back, it's so hard to say which was my favourite city, Utrecht is one of them! Yes, many Dutch words and town names are recognizable, but listening to a conversation is a different kettle of fish. Many of us South Africans have ancestors coming from there, so it was no wonder that I felt at home.

Lighting our candles for Arthur was very special <3

My husband spoke Dutch in the home with his Gran and Mother, arriving in Holland was totally lost with the language although we could read and understand a fair bit. Conversing with some in Belgium was easier, only certain dialect similar to Afrikaans.
