I've been eyeing museums or relics keepers to explore. Since I was a kid, I've never experienced touring such old heritage to experience our ancestors might use during their era. This is relevant to us today knowing it has a great value to us Filipinos. So today, let me show you one Of the heritages here in Cebu the street of Parian, the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House. It is known to be one of the oldest houses ever built in the Philippines.
This is the first house I visited the last time I went to the city. It's just near Jesuit House and it has distinct relics than the Jesuit. If you happen to visit here, you can see first the entrance which has hanging decorations, I don't know what it means but when I saw other related pictures on this, they hung different decorations as well. From the outside, has a huge old jar. It was painted black to cover its flaws. Together with healthy plants, and a brief description of the house too.
The entrance fee here is 100 pesos or 1.71 USD. There were two in charge of this house and are accommodating as well. On the inside, I was surprised by so many decorations, relics, and religious figures.
Frames in Action!
On the lower part of the old house were some frames hanging. It's aged but beautiful. We can probably see on the frames how people lived before, the houses, and the mere owner of the house.
Pamaypay/Paypay or anahaw fan in English term. It is made of Philippine Anahaw leaves perfectly woven to make a fan.
More religious statues!
The house was full of art and designs it's because the former owner of this house was an art collector and also a dance choreographer of a famous dance group who contributed a lot to the prestigious Sinulog Festival in Cebu.
The house was touched with a combination of Spanish-Chinese designs and so the things been used beforehand. It smelled like an old aged earth that flashbacks the history of our ancestors. I know how important these things were during their era and that's given value until now.
When I partially glimpsed the other side, I went outside to see its full view. Saw a standee of the famous tagline "Love Philippines" and a mesmerizing harana or serenade from a representative from the orchestra. You can donate any amount too.
All too Well!
A heritage well in the city! At first glance, I thought that this has no water in it, but it's their source of water in the house. I have seen a lot of wells already but this has a unique structure in which stones were of use.
Seeing Tatay sharpening his things to trim the plants. He's been maintaining plant growth and sustainability. Even in the center of the city, we can still see green on the house's premises.
I went upstairs to see another collection of the owner here. Well, I saw the owners in frames. Which is living proof of passing their properties from the first-hand owner down to the present.
The use of ceramics and ivory is Chinese. This has flourished in the house but has never been absent of Spanish relics.
The iconic jars.
The historical scabbard, dagger, and other metals used by our ancestors. Protected with a clear glass.
Furniture, cooking materials, and others seem shiny and sturdy.
The history of the house speaks it all. It's like our country has been colonized by some foreign people and even though there are negative effects on us Filipinos there are still "remains" of those who colonized us. Not to mention the language we've been using today, a mixed language to be exact. The things used, the tradition, and everything that we get from them will forever be with us as we solemnly and faithfully use them. However, when we finally got the chance to become an independent country, being a Filipino is there but there's a mark in our hearts of being an "imported" one.
That's all for today Hive friends! Hope you enjoyed our virtual tour in the past! See on the next one! Toodles!
