In the surroundings of one of the busiest squares in Old Havana, Cuba, we can enjoy, in addition to the beauty and architecture that surrounds the place, the plastic arts. Painting lovers can visit the Carmen Montilla Art Gallery, located on Oficios Street, very close to the majestic San Francisco de Asis Square.
This gallery is located in one of the large colonial mansions that surround the square, here you can enjoy the exhibition of several paintings and different art samples. The name of the place is a tribute to Carmen Montilla, a prominent Venezuelan painter who not only had her studio and residence in this place during her stay in Cuba, but also contributed to the renovation and rescue of the building as we see it today.
This property was in very bad shape before the historian's office decided to begin its restoration. I am very pleased that it has been rescued, being now a totally different and very visited place.

The entrance to this big house is through a large wooden gate from which you can see a beautiful garden. Like many of the colonial houses, it has a large courtyard that serves as a stage for the exhibition of various works of art.
Before going out to the patio there is a space dedicated to the exhibition and sale of different paintings, some of them painted on vinyl records, something I had not seen before and I found it very original. There is also a wing where several paintings of different authors are exhibited, and a space dedicated to the work of Carmen Montilla, this Venezuelan painter was a great friend of Cuba.
Arriving at the inner courtyard we enjoy the view of a beautiful garden where we can sit on the chairs around to rest and admire the works of art that surround us. The highlights here are a large ceramic mural by the well-known Cuban artist Alfredo Sosabravo and a bust of the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, donated by the city of Salzburg, birthplace of the famous musician.
The place is very well preserved so we can also admire the beauty of the design of the two-story building with its high strut and wooden beamed ceilings, balconies, arches, windows and all the architecture of the colonial time.
Admission to this gallery is free for all visitors, and it opens its doors to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, starting at 9:30AM.
This is a lovely place worth visiting, I'm sure you will appreciate it.

En las proximidades de una de las más concurridas plazas de la Habana Vieja, en Cuba, se puede disfrutar, además de la belleza y arquitectura que rodea el lugar, de las artes plásticas. Los amantes de la pintura pueden visitar la Galería de Arte Carmen Montilla, situada en la Calle Oficios, muy cercana a la majestuosa plaza de San Francisco de Asís.
Esta galería se encuentra en una de las grandes casonas coloniales que rodean la plaza, aquí se puede disfrutar de la exhibición de varias pinturas y diferentes muestras de arte. El nombre del lugar es un homenaje a Carmen Montilla, una destacada pintora venezolana que no solo tuvo su estudio y residencia en este sitio durante su estancia en Cuba, sino que también contribuyó a la renovación y el rescate de la edificación como la vemos en la actualidad.
Este inmueble estaba muy estropeado antes de que se decidiera por parte de la oficina del historiador comenzar su restauración. Me agrada mucho que se haya logrado rescatar, siendo ahora un lugar totalmente diferente y muy visitado.
La entrada a esta gran casa se realiza a través de un gran portón de madera desde el que se divisa un bonito jardín. Como muchas de las casas coloniales, cuenta con un gran patio que sirve de escenario para la exhibición de diversas obras de arte.
Antes de salir al patio hay un espacio dedicado a la exposición y a la venta de diferentes pinturas, algunas de ellas pintadas en discos de vinilo, algo que yo no había visto antes y lo encontré muy original. Hay también un ala donde se exponen varios cuadros de distintos autores, y un espacio dedicado a la obra de Carmen Montilla, esta pintora venezolana fue una gran amiga de Cuba.
Al llegar al patio interior disfrutamos de la vista de un bonito jardín donde podemos sentarnos en las sillas que hay alrededor para descansar y admirar las obras de arte que nos rodean. Lo más destacado aquí es un amplio mural de cerámica del conocido artista cubano Alfredo Sosabravo y un busto del genio musical Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, donado por la ciudad de Salzburgo, lugar de nacimiento del famoso músico.
El lugar está muy bien conservado por lo que también podemos admirar la belleza del diseño del edificio de dos plantas de dos plantas con su alto puntal y techos con vigas de madera, balcones, arcos, ventanales y toda la arquitectura de la época colonial.
La entrada a esta galería es gratuita para todos los visitantes, y abre sus puertas al público de martes a domingo, desde las 9:30AM.
Este es un lugar encantador que merece la pena visitar, seguro que lo van a apreciar.

Un bonito lugar lleno de arte , ese mural me encantó, con solo mirarlo se define el estilo de ese prestigioso artista cubano Sosabravo.Ademas aunque está ubicada en una zona súper céntrica ,cuando entras todo se siente muy calmo , eso pasa en casi todas las edificaciones de la zona.
