Renewable Energies; "La Quinta de los Molinos" [EN/ES]

in Worldmappinlast month

English Version

'The Quinta of the Mills' is a large garden inside the city, an oasis. It is not that the city lacks the green of the trees, I am pleased to live in a city where natural spaces are respected and where vegetation grows around the buildings, offering shade to the persons in the streets. However, Quinta de los Molinos is one of those places where you forget that you are in the middle of the city and just concentrate on enjoying the beauty of the place and feeling connected with its abundant nature.

This is an immense garden of more than 4 hectares, declared a National Monument for its history and heritage. In colonial times in Cuba, this was the resting place of the Captains General who ruled the island, and it was also linked to different historical moments of the country.

The Quinta de los Molinos is also an example of self-sufficiency in the production of its own energy through renewable sources, clean of pollutants. They also have a Renewable Energy Demonstration Center which also has the function of educating in the use of this type of energy.

Renewable energy is considered the energy of the future, and more and more people, institutions and governments are becoming aware of its benefits and production by taking advantage of the natural resources that exist in nature. This energy does not pollute the environment and can help to reduce global warming.

Before arriving at the Renewable Energy Production Center at Quinta of the Mills, I enjoyed the view of this beautiful garden, with a stone fountain in its center and some sculptures. It is very beautiful and it is kept clean and very well cared for.

At the end of the garden there is a large stone where, according to the information that is in place, there was a waterfall. At present, I do not know why it is no longer there, but this was a very visited area that was very popular with all those who came to the place. On the rock there is a kind of path where you can climb and from that height we can see a great view of the garden and the space dedicated to the Energy Center.

At the Quinta, clean energy production is achieved with 72 solar panels connected to the electrical grid. An informative sign on the site shows the details of this photovoltaic system and its advantages. They also have a solar water heater installed.

In Cuba, the use of this type of energy has increased, but I believe that it is still insufficient and that solar energy should be used more. In my country, if there is something we have in excess and never lack, it is a lot of sun! 😎😄.

Another thing I saw here that amazed me was the fence separating the solar panels. When I saw it, my first impression was that it was made of wood, but as I got closer and touched it, I realized my mistake. It turns out that it is eco-wood and is made from recycled plastic material. I think this is an excellent way to give a use to the waste of this material that causes so much damage to the environment.

Next to the solar panels, there are also two windmills, one of them hydraulic. This is a sample of the different types of energy that can be used to produce electricity in addition to solar.

I really liked to know this place, which I had never visited before, and to know that there are sites like this one where priority is given to the care of the environment and nature. I hope that the use of renewable energies and this type of projects become more widespread every day.

Cheers to all and until next time 👋!

It’s amazing how places like these allow us to pause and appreciate the simpler, quieter sides of life, isn’t it? With its historic roots and dedication to renewable energy, it’s not just a beautiful escape but also a beacon of sustainability.
