Hello Hivers

HWY 1A

Welcome to Banff National Park, located in Alberta, Canada

The old saying, it's the journey, not the destination is proven in this post. The highway 1A, which isn't a highway but more of a winding country road where the speed limit is ....

30-40 mph or 50-60 Kmh. Usually the car in front of you is driving much slower while taking in the scenery. There are months the road is closed to vehicles to give the animals some breathing space and allow for migration and mating seasons.

Whenever I am on this road there is little traffic and the main highway is busy. People are missing such an opportunity.

The scenery is stunning everywhere and everyone gets a thrill of...

seeing animals. I have seen numerous moose, cows and calves, as well as bulls. Elk and a few wolves as well as a couple of bears.

Numerous pullovers along the way are placed at excellent photo spots, and informative placards with historical information, such as an internment camp where war prisoners were brought to cut trees. As well as geological information.

This is the original highway and has been replaced by the Trans Canada, and is about 50 KM long, or 30 miles.

There are many hikes that start from this road, as well as day use and camping areas, it has taught me to get off the highway and take a backroad, so much more relaxing and a lifetime of memories.
