Hallo zusammen,
letztes Wochenende haben wir zum Abschluss der Ferien einen kleinen Städtetrip nach Bremen unternommen.
Dafür haben wir eine Nacht im Prizeotel gebucht. Das war das erste Mal, das wir die Kette Prizeotel gebucht haben, daher wussten wir nicht, was auf uns zukommt. Die Übernachtung dort kostete 64 € ohne Frühstück.
Das Hotel liegt direkt gegenüber der Bürgerweide, auf der auch der Bremer Freimarkt stattfindet. An diesem Wochenende war dort die Osterwiese, eine große Kirmes mit vielen Fahrgeschäften und Festzelt.
Der Bahnhof ist ca. 400m vom Hotel entfernt, d.h. man kann sich dort auch schnell eine Kleinigkeit zu Essen oder zu trinken besorgen.

Last weekend we went on a little city trip to Bremen at the end of our holidays.
For this we booked a night at Prizeotel. This was the first time we booked the Prizeotel brand, so we didn't know what to expect. The night there cost 64 € without breakfast.
The hotel is directly opposite the "Bürgerweide", where the Bremen "Freimarkt" also takes place. This weekend there was the "Osterwiese", a big fair with many rides and a marquee.
The main train station is about 400m from the hotel, so you can get a quick bite to eat or drink there.
Die Hotellobby ist recht modern und stylisch eingerichtet. Es gibt eine 24h Bar mit frisch gezapftem Bier. Das ist eher eine Seltenheit in einem Hotel dieses Preissegments.
The hotel lobby is quite modern and stylish. There is a 24-hour bar with freshly tapped beer. This is rather a rarity in a hotel of this price segment.
Zimmer: / Room:
Da wir vom Design und der Größe der Zimmer vom Premier Inn recht verwöhnt sind, kam uns das Zimmer im Prizeotel recht spartanisch vor. Es gab eine kleine Sitzgelegenheit, aber ansonsten gar keine Ablageflächen. Für die Jacken war lediglich ein Haken an der Wand...das war es auch schon. Das Bett hat ziemlich geknarrt und das gesamte Hotel war sehr hellhörig.
Aber für eine Nacht in Bremen war es für uns völlig ok und wir haben gut zu dritt in dem großen Doppelbett geschlafen.
Das Frühstück haben wir nicht genommen, da es erfahrungsgemäß in solchen Hotels vom Preis Leistungsverhältnis nicht so gut ist. Uns hat dann ein schönes belegtes Brötchen vom Bahnhof ausgereicht. Wenn man sparen möchte, auf jeden Fall eine zu überlegende Alternative zum Hotelfrühstück.
As we are quite spoiled by the design and size of the rooms at the Premier Inn, the room at the Prizeotel seemed quite spartan. There was a small seating area, but otherwise no storage space at all. There was only one hook on the wall for jackets...that was it. The bed creaked a lot and the whole hotel was very noisy.
But for one night in Bremen it was completely ok for us and we slept well as a trio in the big double bed.
We didn't have breakfast, as experience has shown that the price-performance ratio in such hotels is not that good. A nice sandwich from the train station was enough for us. If you want to save money, this is definitely an alternative to the hotel breakfast.
Wir konnten bereits um 14 Uhr einchecken und sind somit direkt los in Richtung Altstadt um den schönen Sonnenschein zu genießen. Im Bahnhofsviertel war ziemlich viel Trubel, aber so kennt man es ja in den Großstädten. Für uns, die wir aus einer 60.000 Einwohner Stadt kommen, immer wieder ein Erlebnis, aber auch eine Umstellung.
Wir versuchen neue Städte immer zum Größten Teil zu Fuß, zu erkunden, da man so ein besseres Gefühl für den Ort bekommt, an dem man sich befindet. In Bremen gelingt dieses sehr gut, da man fast alles gut zu Fuß erreichen kann.
We were able to check in at 2 pm and went straight to the old town to enjoy the beautiful sunshine. There was a lot of hustle and bustle in the station district, but that's how it is in big cities. For us, who come from a city with 60,000 inhabitants, it is always an experience, but also a change.
We always try to explore new cities mostly on foot, as this gives us a better feel for the place we are in. In Bremen, this works very well because you can reach almost everything on foot.
Hauptbahnhof: / Main station:
Wie malerisch ist bitte diese Mühle auf dem kleinen Hügel?! Man könnte meinen, man befinde sich in den Niederlanden. Vor allem die Tulpenwiese vor der MÜhle erinnert doch stark daran.
Es handelt sich um die Mühle am Wall, welche nicht weit entfernt vom Hauptbahnhof ist. Die Mühle stammt ursprünglich aus dem 17.-18. Jahrhundert, ist aber im 19. Jahrhundert zweimal vollständig abgebrannt und wurde wieder aufgebaut. Bis 1947 wurde hier Mehl gemahlen. Heute kann man dort eine Kaffeepause einlegen und schöne Fotos machen.
How picturesque is this mill on the little hill?! You could be forgiven for thinking you were in the Netherlands. The tulip meadow in front of the mill is especially reminiscent.
It is the mill at the Wall, which is not far from the main railway station. The mill originally dates from the 17th-18th centuries, but burnt down completely twice in the 19th century and was rebuilt. Flour was ground here until 1947. Today you can take a coffee break there and take beautiful photos.

Diese Bronzeskulptur wurde zu Ehren von Wilhelm Kaisen aufgestellt, welcher einst der beste Bürgermeister Bremens gewesen sein soll.
This bronze sculpture was erected in honour of Wilhelm Kaisen, who is said to have once been Bremen's best mayor.
Auf dem großen Platz am Mark ist immer viel los. Zahlreiche Cafes und viele großartige historische Gebäude ziehen wahre Besuchermassen an.
Der Platz hat einen ganz besonderen Flair, und in jede Richtung blickend gibt es was zu entdecken.
There is always a lot going on in the large square on the Mark. Numerous cafés and many grand historic buildings attract real crowds of visitors.
The square has a very special flair, and there is something to discover looking in every direction.
Dom:
Da der St. Petri Dom bei unserem letzten Besuch geschlossen war, haben wir dieses Mal die Gelegenheit genutzt, uns auch mal sein Inneres anzusehen. Der Dom aus dem 11. Jahrhundert ist von imposanter Größe und Gestalt und es gibt einige interessante Holzschnitzereien und tolle Kirchenfenster in seinem Inneren zu bestaunen. Während wir uns die vielen künstlerischen Elemente betrachteten erklang von der Empore der Gesang eines Chores, der gerade eine Probe machte. Die Akustik in einer Kirche ist natürlich immer fantastisch und so klang der Gesang dieses Chores einfach nur wunderschön und untermalte unseren Besuch im Dom musikalisch.
As St Peter's Cathedral was closed on our last visit, we took the opportunity this time to have a look inside. The 11th century cathedral is of imposing size and shape and there are some interesting wood carvings and great stained glass windows to admire inside. While we were looking at the many artistic elements, the sound of a choir singing was heard from the gallery as they were rehearsing. The acoustics in a church are always fantastic, of course, and so the singing of this choir sounded simply beautiful and provided musical accompaniment to our visit to the cathedral.
Böttcherstrasse:
Ich denke die Böttcherstrasse ist einer der beliebtesten Anlaufpunkte in Bremen. Sie vereint Kunst und Kultur, besondere Gastronomie und historische Backsteinarchitektur und das auf eigentlich nur wenigen Metern. Ein sehr belebter und besonderer Ort, der auch als "heimliche Hauptstraße" der Stadt bezeichnet wird. In der Böttcherstrasse findet Ihr auch das berühmte Glockenspiel von Bremen mit Glocken aus Meißner Porzellan.
I think Böttcherstrasse is one of the most popular places to go in Bremen. It combines art and culture, special gastronomy and historic brick architecture, and all that in just a few metres. It's a very lively and special place, also known as the city's "secret main street". In Böttcherstrasse you will also find the famous Glockenspiel of Bremen with bells made of Meissen porcelain.
Madonna
Die Madonna von Bernhard Hoetger ziert den Eingang des Paula Modersohn-Becker Museums, in dem ein Großteil seiner Arbeiten ausgestellt wird.

Eva auf dem Schwan / Eve on the Swan
Die Bronzefigur "Eva auf dem Schwan" von 1906 ist ebenfalls eine Arbeit von Bernhard Hoetger und kann auf der Terrasse vor dem Museum bewundert werden.
The bronze figure "Eva on the Swan" from 1906 is also a work by Bernhard Hoetger and can be admired on the terrace in front of the museum.
Panther, die Nacht tragend / Panther, carrying the night
Diese Bronzefigur von Bernhard Hoetger aus dem Jahre 1912 gefällt mir besonders gut. Sie wurde ebenfalls in die Böttchergasse integriert und kann so von allen Passanten im Vorbeigehen bewundert werden.
I particularly like this bronze figure by Bernhard Hoetger from 1912. It was also integrated into Böttchergasse and can thus be admired by all passers-by as they walk by.
Schlachte:
Wenn wir in Bremen sind, zieht es uns mindestens einmal auf die "Alexander von Humboldt" oder von vielen auch liebevoll das "Becks Schiff" genannt. Dieses berühmte grüne Segelschiff liegt seit 2016 in der Schlachte von Bremen und wird unter anderem als Hotelschiff genutzt. Zudem gibt es unten einen Bar- und oben einen Restaurant Bereich. In der Bar arbeitet meist gut gelauntes Personal, das auch für einen kleinen Schnack zu haben ist. Chillige Musik, Feuerstellen im Tisch und coole Getränke runden den relaxten Rahmen ab. Hier trinken wir gerne ein BECKS oder auch zwei ;)
An der Schlachte gibt es übrigens viele Bars, Restaurants und auch einen Biergarten, immer mit Blick auf die Weser. Besonders im Sommer ist es die Ausgeh- und Flaniermeile Bremens.
Whenever we are in Bremen, we are drawn at least once to the "Alexander von Humboldt", also affectionately known by many as the "Becks Schiff". This famous green sailing ship has been moored in Bremen's Schlachte since 2016 and is used as a hotel ship, among other things. There is also a bar area downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. The bar is usually staffed by good-humoured people who are also available for a chat. Chill music, fireplaces in the table and cool drinks round off the relaxed setting. We like to have a BECKS or two here ;)
By the way, there are many bars, restaurants and also a beer garden on the Schlachte, always with a view of the Weser. Especially in summer, it is Bremen's nightlife and promenade.
Translation of this saying:

Ich mag die Atmosphäre mit Blick auf die Weser und die Schiffe. So kann man während seines Städtetrips gut entspannen und die Füße etwas ausruhen.
I like the atmosphere with a view of the Weser and the ships. It's a good way to relax and rest your feet a bit during your city trip.
Für die, die es noch nicht wussten: Das Becks kommt aus Bremen und die Brauerei befindet sich auf der anderen Seite der Weser, gegenüber des "Becks Schiffes".
For those who didn't know, Becks comes from Bremen and the brewery is located on the other side of the Weser, opposite the "Becks Ship".
Am Abend haben wir dann noch die Osterwiese besucht, die sich direkt gegenüber des Hotels befandt. Es ist dasselbe Gelände, auf dem auch der Bremer Freimarkt stattfindet. Also falls Ihr mal vorhabt, die Kirmes zu besuchen, hat das Prizeotel die perfekte Lage dafür. Einfach kurz über die Straße und schon ist man da.
In the evening we visited the Osterwiese, which is directly opposite the hotel. It is the same area where the Bremen Freimarkt takes place. So if you ever plan to visit the fair, the Prizeotel is in the perfect location. Just cross the street and you're there.

Nach dem Kirmesbesuch und ordentlich Schritten auf der Uhr sind wir wieder ins Hotel gegangen und haben es uns mit ein paar Knabbereien im Zimmer gemütlich gemacht.
Städtetrips machen wirklich Spaß, sind aber auch immer etwas anstrengend.
Wir sind froh, dass unser 8-jähriger immer so toll mitzieht und sich auch für andere Städte und Eindrücke interessiert.

After the visit to the fair and a lot of steps on the clock, we went back to the hotel and made ourselves comfortable with some nibbles in the room.
City trips are really fun, but they are also always a bit exhausting.
We are glad that our 8-year-old is always so enthusiastic and interested in other cities and impressions.
