Wafer rolls taste completely different - ready-made, industrially produced with whipped cream from a plastic container and freshly baked wafer rollss with whipped cream. I definitely prefer the latter solution. A few days ago I heard that there has been a confectionery in Warsaw for 60 years, where you can buy great wafer rolls with whipped cream. Due to the pandemic, it was threatened with liquidation. The owners of the confectionery wrote about their situation on social media and the craze began, queues of customers began to form at the confectionery's door.
Zupełnie inaczej smakują rurki - gotowce, produkowane przemysłowo z bitą śmietaną z plastikowego pojemnika i świeżo wypieczone rurki z samodzielnie zrobioną bitą śmietaną. Zdecydowanie wolę to drugie rozwiązanie. Kilka dni temu usłyszałam, że w Warszawie działa od 60-lat zakład, w którym można kupić świetne rurki z bitą śmietaną. Z powodu pandemii groziła mu likwidacja. Właściciele zakładu z rurkami napisali o swojej sytuacji w mediach społecznościowych i rozpoczął się szał na Rurki z Wiatraka, pod drzwiami zakładu zaczęły się ustawiać kolejki klientów.
I was in the area today and decided to take a look there and buy some wafer rolls. I was hoping that the "hot season" for wafer rolls was over and I would be able to buy them quickly without having to stand for long. I told my friend about the wafer rolls and he wrote that he remembered hist first childhood trip to Warsaw. And the following associations appear in his mind: Royal Castle, mermaid and even ... wafer rolls.
*Byłam dzisiaj w okolicy i postanowiłam tam zajrzeć i kupić kilka rurek. Miałam nadzieję, że "gorący okres" na rurki już minął i uda mi się szybko dokonać zakupu bez konieczności długiego stania. Opowiedziałam o rurkach mojemu koledze i napisał mi, że łączy się z nimi wspomnienie pierwszego z wyjazdu do Warszawy w dzieciństwie. I pojawiają mu się w myślach następujące skojarzenia: Zamek Królewski, syrenka i właśnie... rurki."
Unfortunately, it turned out that the water rolls were over and another portion was being baked. Even on the glass there is a piece of paper with the inscription "No WAFER ROLLS. They will be after 4pm."
Niestety okazało się, że rurki się skończyły i była wypiekana kolejna ich porcja. Nawet na szybie przyklejono kartkę z napisem "RUREK BRAK. Będą po 16."
I decided to wait and I was walking around the area. I saw, among others a wonderful mural painted by the watercolorist Tytus Brzozowski.
Postanowiłam poczekać i pochodziłam po okolicy. Zobaczyłam m.in. cudowny mural namalowany przez akwarelistę Tytusa Brzozowskiego.

When I arrived around 4 pm, in front of the "Rurki z Wiatraka" confectionery , there was a large queue of people willing to buy whipped cream rolls.
Gdy przyszłam w okolicy 16 przed zakładem "Rurki z Wiatraka" formowała się duża kolejka chętnych na rurki z bitą śmietaną.
One of the women in the line was carrying a gigantic gift. The tubes were probably its complement :)
Jedna z kobiet w kolejce niosła gigantyczny prezent. Rurki były zapewne jego dopełnieniem :)
It is time for my turn. The saleswoman reached for the freshly baked, crispy tubes that had just arrived at the confectionery. They were cool. If they were warm or hot, the whipped cream would melt inside.
Przyszedł najwyższy czas na moją kolej. Sprzedawczyni sięgnęła po świeżo upieczone, chrupiące rurki, które przed chwilą trafiły do zakładu. Były ostygnięte. Gdyby były ciepłe, albo gorące bita śmietana rozpłynęłaby się w środku.
Then the wafer rolls saleswoman started filling them with whipped cream. She did it manually using a special machine. She put the wafer rolls against the machine and poured whipped cream into it. You can see how it looked in the next photos.
Następnie sprzedawczyni rurek zaczęła je napełniać bitą śmietaną. Robiła to ręcznie przy użyciu specjalnej maszyny. Przykładała rurkę do maszyny i wpuszczała do niej bitą śmietanę. Jak to wyglądało możecie zobaczyć na kolejnych zdjęciach.
And this is what delicious tubes looked like, already in my home. I bought 3 pieces. They tasted wonderful :) If you ever were in Warsaw, I encourage you to take a look at this sweet place (Grochowska 210/212 street) and buy a wafer roll filled with whipped cream. One costs 0,78 Euro or almost 1$.
A tak wyglądały przepyszne rurki, już w moim domu. Kupiłam 3 sztuki. Smakowały cudownie :) Gdybyście byli kiedyś w Warszawie, zachęcam was, żebyście zajrzeli w to słodkie miejsce (ul. Grochowska 210/212) i kupili sobie rurkę. Jedna kosztuje 3,50 zł.
