Today I will show you, among others the oldest exhibits of the Geological Museum in Warsaw. It is i.a. perisphinctes ammonite found in 1924. You can see it in the photo above. It is an ammonite fossil from the Jura era. I admit that ammonites fascinate me. I recently watched a movie about a researcher and ammonite collector called "Ammonite". Kate Winslet played the role of the famous paleontologist Mary Anning. It was an amazing film showing how a paleontologist found ammonites and how much she was involved in her work, with a controversial romance theme. I recommend you, it's a very interesting movie.
Dzisiaj pokażę wam m.in. najstarsze eksponaty Muzeum Geologicznego w Warszawie. Jest nim m.in. amonit perisphinctes znaleziony w 1924 r. Możecie go zobaczyć na zdjęciu powyżej. To skamieniałość amonitu z epoki Jury. Przyznam, że fascynują mnie amonity. Niedawno oglądałam film o badaczce i kolekcjonerce amonitów pt. "Amonit". W postać słynnej paleontolożki Mary Anning wcieliła się Kate Winslet. To był niesamowity film ukazujący w jaki sposób paleontolożka znajdowała amonity i jak bardzo angażowała się w swoją pracę, z kontrowersyjnym wątkiem romansu. Polecam wam, to bardzo ciekawy film.
Another interesting specimen at the Geological Museum was this huge purple amethyst geode from Rio Grande de Sul, Brazil. I was delighted with her 💜
Amethyst is a semi-precious stone from the quartz group. The name of the stone comes from the Greek word amethysos, which means "sober", in Sanskrit cacunda this name translates as "bringing good luck" and in Hebrew it means achlamach, meaning "giving pleasant dreams".

Kolejnym ciekawym okazem w Muzeum Geologicznym była ta ogromna fioletowa geoda ametystowa pochodząca z Rio Grande de Sul w Brazylii. Zachwyciłam się nią 💜
Ametyst jest kamieniem półszlachetnym z grupy kwarcu. Nazwa kamienia pochodzi od greckiego słowa amethysos, które oznacza „trzeźwy”, w sanskrycie cacunda nazwę tą tłumaczy się jako „przynoszący szczęście”, a w hebrajskim oznacza ona achlamach, czyli „dający miłe sny”.

And here are another beautiful crystals, this time created by orange and green crystalline gypsum. It looks a bit like colored icicles.
A tu kolejne przepiękne kryształy stworzone tym razem przez gips krystaliczny pomarańczowy i zielony. Wygląda trochę jak kolorowe sople lodu.
This white plaster crystal reminded me of a giant crystal that is sometimes worn as a neck ornament. If I put it down, it would be up to my knees. Many times, when I looked at various exhibits in the museum, I had the impression that I was in a jewelry store and looked at the precious stones there magnified many times.
Ten biały kryształ gipsu przypominał mi gigantyczny kryształ, który czasem nosi się jako ozdobę szyi. Gdyby go postawić, sięgałby mi do kolan. Wielokrotnie, gdy oglądałam różne eksponaty w muzeum miałam wrażenie jakbym była w sklepie jubilerskim i oglądała znajdujace się tam kamienie szlachetne powiększone wielokrotnie.
They are pieces of native sulfur. Also in very interesting shapes.
To kawałki siarki rodzimej. Również w bardzo ciekawych kształtach.
And here you can see huge halite. Its main ingredient is sodium chloride.
A tu możecie zobaczyć ogromny halit. Jego głównym składnikiem jest chlorek sodu.
A nice attraction was this cupboard with drawers where you could read about interesting geological discoveries.
Fajną atrakcją była ta szafka z szufladami, w których można było przeczytać na temat ciekawych odkryć geologicznych.
I was interested in the drawer that reads "The story of one mammoth". There you can find historical photos showing how the mammoth was assembled, one of the main animal exhibits in the museum. If you were curious about what he looks like, I wrote about him in this article.
Zaciekawiła mnie szuflada z napisem "Historia jednego mamuta". Można tam znaleźć historyczne zdjęcia pokazujące jak składano mamuta, jeden z głównych eksponatów zwierzęcych w muzeum. Gdybyście byli ciekawi jak wygląda, pisałam o nim w tym artykule.
