Plakias, Crete
A small, laid-back beach community in Heraklion, Greece, where we spent most of the time during our summer holidays. It was a perfect spot to meet family members from Switzerland. Also, Kevin has friends who own naturally grown olive farms, and we were keen to visit them and help out.
Most of the days, we found ourselves hanging out at the beach, enjoying Cretan food, drinking cocktails of course, because any hour is happy hour 😆
But i longed for a walk, and this rocky mountain had been teasing me every time. I kept on wondering what it would be like up there at sunrise, or maybe at a glorious sunset. Until Kevin had enough of it! "We go up there now, or never" - he said on one fine afternoon, 5 o'clock to be exact, the sun was still high up my skin hurt. But hey, that's what sunscreen lotions are for.
Well, it was a messy hike. First of all, we had to trespass at some olive farm to go to the trail (or we were just too stupid to find it). Up there was super windy, and the dead thorny bushes loved to caress my bare legs. 😏
Halfway we saw gaming chairs left to rot, and at a nearby rusty fence were 2 goats' skulls hanging. Of course, Kevin had to be Kevin. 🤣
We eventually reached the top of that mountain, but not after almost getting a heat stroke, as well as being blown away by winds coming from all directions. As a reward though, the view of the blue Mediterranean from up there was gorgeous.
On the way back, because I trust my husband so much, we followed his idea when he wanted to take a short cut. Until we realized, we were in the middle of freakin thorny bushes again without any trail, haha. Our marriage was on the rocks (oh the pun was very much intended!) 🤣😹
After several scratches and curses thrown, we managed to trespass another farm's fence and found our way back to the beach. Well, it was indeed an adventure. 😆 xoxo
