Several years ago, when my teenage son asked permission to go somewhere, I asked what for? He replied, for healing! (Literally he said healing, in English). I didn't understand what he meant at the time.
"Are you not feeling well!" I asked, slightly worried.
"No!" she replied immediately, "I just need to take a walk to freshen up!"
"Oh yes, all right then!" I said, actually still not getting it.
Yes, things have certainly changed a lot. In the past, when we were teenagers, we would go to the beach to have fun, take a bath and sit under shady trees or among the dense coconut trees while eating what we brought from home. Today it is very different. On the beach everything we need is available. We just show up and are ready to be served what we want to relax and have fun. I confirmed what my son said: healing. Yes, that's absolutely true.
In fact, when we need certain positions to enjoy the view, those are also provided. The positions are chosen, designed, and constructed in such a way that we get views as if we were undergoing a healing.
These images show how on Lhoknga beach, in Aceh, the positions are designed and made to relax and heal a person.
A construction, such as a stage, is made to enclose a leafy pine tree. The main view presented up there is of course the sea surface and the waves crashing against the shore, but one is seeing all of that from a place slightly higher than sea level. Another view, one can choose whatever he wants to see: the sky and its clouds, rows of hills, or anything around it, even pine cones falling on the stage floor.
In another corner, benches were placed under a tree. A great place to hang out enjoying the sea breeze and views, as well as feeling the healing process.
A kind of traditional pavilion that is quite simple, roofed with thatched leaves and floors made of bamboo are also placed in a position that can provide a healing.
