Exploring Istanbul Day 1 - Taksim Square and Durum on the go

in Worldmappin4 years ago (edited)

Just returned home after a trip to Istanbul and I still can't believe how HUGE, crowded and beautiful this city is.

Istanbul is the biggest city in Europe with over 15 Million residents and expands for more than 100 km from side to side. It's also the 15th biggest city in the world and may I say one of the most beautiful too?!?

I stayed there for 5 days, explored the city as much as I possibly could and returned back home with a lot of awesome memories and of course some sweet photos to share with all of you!

Istanbul Day 1

I booked this trip with a travel agency and travelled from Greece to Istanbul by bus. Took us more than 12 hours to get there and it was around 20:00 when we finally reached at our destination.

I was so tired and at the same time so hyped I was finally on a trip abroad after 2 years (fuck Corona). The hotel was located right next to the most central square of the city called 'Taksim' so I just put my luggage down at the hotel room , hit the road and started exploring the city center!

This was the first thing I saw when arrived on Taksim

It's the most central mosque of the city and probably one of the newest as it's construction finished just a few months ago. It's a beautiful sight!

My walk didn't stop there and the moment I stepped my foot on "İstiklal Caddesi", the most busy street of Istanbul located right next to Taxim I realized how crowded of a city Instanbul was!

İstiklal Caddesi is always that crowded and you can find pretty much everything there. From local spices to expensive jewelery, this district has it all!

I just kept walking in between this herd of people and kept shooting photos of everything I found cool hehe! Here are some of 'em

Did I mentioned I travelled there with my mother? Quality mother-son time hehe

After a long 2 hours walk I was feeling so hungry so I decided to try out one of the most well-known foods on Turkey, the famous Durum which is a mix of beef and lamb meat. Eating pork is not allowed over there.

Our guide took us to a small shop located just bellow "İstiklal Caddesi" and damn this must have been one of the most tasty things I've ever eaten!

Wrapped Durum with tomato, vegetables, spices and red pepper flakes? Count me in

This is also the shop where the famous American actor George Clooney eats his Durum when he's in town or at least that's what the shop owner told us haha! Photo is blur but I think you can see his face on the wall!

After eating 2 Durum in like 5 minutes I decided to call it a day, head back to the hotel and rest cause the next day was gonna be full of sightseeing.

Gonna share 3 more posts with you from my visit to Istanbul so stay tuned and I hoped you enjoyed reading this one.

Until the next one, take care and travel a lot! Cheers and have a great week ahead!

I wanna take my mom there somewhere next year! I am gonna keep on reading yours and see where to visit. The market looks bit too crowded but I guess that's where the good stuff are.

You should definitely go, the products are cheap and really worthy to explore these markets. Here people love to go to Turkey, I am also planning to travel there. Hotels are cheap as well, from Ukraine the total travel cost will be 1200 Euro for a few days...So, I am gonna go next year...

I booked this trip with a travel agency and it was like 280 Euro for hotel and leaving/coming back to Greece via bus! Must have spent like 300 more over there in 5 days!

Don't think about it, just go @priyanarc

So cheap, I thought about a travel agency, to be honest, don't wanna take the pressure of arrangements. Here we have a lot of agencies, so I think it might be cheap if I travel through an agency...

This was the first time I booked with a travel agency but it's totally worth it in a city with so much history like Instanbul cause our guide really helped us understand how magnificent everything we were looking at was!

No pressure at all to be honest! If you want/can you follow the schedule. If not you can just do your thing! For example I went for skateboarding the last day and didn't follow the others hehe!

What @priyanarc said bellow! Everything's really cheap, beautiful and the people over there are so nice!

Not gonna ruin the fun, just keep reading the next ones hehehe!

Very beautiful photos, thank you for taking us with you!! I have not traveled far away in a long while...

Thanks Katerina! Missed travelling somuch I forgot how good it feels like!

Oh boii, I really want to go to Istanbul, heard so much about the city. Food, culture, history, and architecture are so fascinating and so many places to see...Probably next year, I will go to Turkey for holiday...

You're an architecture right? Oh, you're gonna fall in love with the city!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I entered "Dolmabahçe Palace"!Unfortunately no photos were allowed inside...

"Dolmabahçe Palace", people always talk about this palace and yes, I have heard that no pictures are allowed. I am very curious about the Islamic architecture of Istanbul, must be worthy to see. Enjoy you Trip :D

Oh I'm back already hehe! WIIsh I could stay more but too damn crypto-busy

Congratulations on the trip brother, thank you for sharing your photos, you can see that it is an incredible place, it is good that you share all these memories and experiences lived with us.
Definitely a beautiful place.

So stoked you liked my content G and yes, travelling is the best! One day we'll travel to the same place, meet up and skate brother!
