As if traveling 30 km by public transport to the airport, 1,300 km by plane to the province of Misiones and another 30 km to our hostel were not enough, when we finally reached our destination I still wanted to continue walking. Every time I'm out for a walk I want to make the most of the time we have in that place to take a few memories with me and I don't care if they are points far or near. That's how, after leaving all my luggage in a safe place, I started a walk to the Landmark of the Three Borders, where according to the internet there would be a light show at 8 PM (spoiler: that never happened) 😅.
Como si desplazarse 30 km en transporte público hasta el aeropuerto, 1300 km en avión hasta la provincia de Misiones y otros 30 km hasta nuestro hostel fuera poco, cuando finalmente llegamos a destino yo aún tenía ganas de seguir andando. Cada vez que estoy de paseo quiero aprovechar al máximo el tiempo que tenemos en ese lugar para llevarme unos cuántos recuerdos y no me importa si son puntos lejos o cerca. Así fue como, después de dejar todo mi equipaje en un lugar seguro, emprendí una caminata hasta el Hito de las Tres Fronteras, donde según internet habría un show de luces a las 8 PM (spoiler: eso nunca sucedió) 😅.
That day my friend did not accompany me because she had to take an online class at the same time. What I like about our walks is that although they are together, each one is free to do what they want without the other getting angry about individual decisions. The map said that the landmark that I wanted to see was 30 blocks from our hostel and that it would take me half an hour to get there, so keeping this in mind, I started my walk. Of course I shared my location in real time for any inconvenience that might arise, although everyone had told me that this area of the city of Puerto Iguazú was quite safe, even at night 🙂.
Ese día mi amiga no me acompañó porque tenía que tomar una clase en línea en ese mismo horario. Lo que me gusta de nuestros paseos es que si bien son en conjunto, cada una es libre de hacer lo que quiera sin que la otra se enoje por las decisiones individuales. El mapa decía que el Hito que yo quería ver estaba a 30 cuadras de nuestro hostel y que me tomaría media hora llegar, así que teniendo en cuenta esto emprendí mi caminata. Por supuesto le compartí mi ubicación en tiempo real por cualquier inconveniente que puediera surgir, aunque todo el mundo me había dicho que esa zona de la ciudad de Puerto Iguazú era bastante segura, incluso de noche 🙂.
The rain hadn't come yet but you could feel the humidity of the Misiones jungle in the air and on the floors. It is incredible how the body notices the changes in humidity in this country: when I went to the south where the climate is drier there was no problem with this, but there after a couple of minutes of walking I had to slow down because they asked me to my lungs. All the streets I passed were quite dark in general: according to the owner of the hostel, the whole city saves energy by having as little lighting as possible 🤓.
La lluvia aún no había llegado pero se podía sentir la humedad de la selva misionera en el aire y en los pisos. Es increíble como el cuerpo nota los cambios en la humedad en este país: cuando fui al sur donde el clima es más seco no había problema con esto, pero ahí después de un par de minutos de caminar tuve que aligerar la marcha porque me lo pedían mis pulmones. Todas las calles que pasé eran bastante oscuras en general: según el dueño del hostel, toda la ciudad ahorra energía teniendo la mínima iluminación posible 🤓.
When I finally reached the Landmark, I also came across a rather dark place. It was still a few minutes until 8 PM and the supposed light show, so I walked around the place a bit. This area is like a great corridor in front of the confluence of the Paraná River and the Iguazú River, which separate the three countries Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. It has a shopping center, several restaurants and space to sit and admire the river and the vegetation (or so I suppose you can do it during the day when you can see a little more) 😅.
Cuando finalmente llegué al Hito, también me encontré con un lugar bastante oscuro. Aún faltaban unos minutos para las 8 PM y el supuesto show de luces, así que recorrí un poco el lugar. Esta zona es como un gran corredor frente a la confluencia del Río Paraná y el Río Iguazú, los cuales separan los tres países Argentina, Paraguay y Brasil. Cuenta con un centro comercial, varios restaurantes y espacio para sentarse a admirar el río y la vegetación (o eso supongo que se puede hacer de día cuando se puede ver un poco más) 😅.
Just by leaning out of the balcony you can see the three countries in the same image: Paraguay on the left and Brazil on the right. To get to these countries you can access by land and also by public transport, of course going through the corresponding Customs and immigration. The DNI that we Argentines have allows us to circulate through these countries without having to get a passport, so if you want to make a small visit to neighboring countries it is possible. I think most people cross from here to Paraguay because there are quite cheap shopping centers there and to Brazil to see the other side of the majestic Iguazú Falls ❣️.
Con solo asomarte al balcón se pueden ver los tres países en una misma imagen: Paraguay a la izquierda y Brasil a la derecha. Para llegar a estos países se puede acceder por vía terrestre y también en transporte público, por supuesto pasando por la correspondiente Aduana y migraciones. Los DNI que tenemos los argentinos nos permite circular por estos países sin tener que hacernos un pasaporte, así que si deseas hacer una pequeña visita a los países vecinos es posible. Creo que la mayoría de la gente cruza de aquí a Paraguay porque allá hay centros comerciales bastante económicos y a Brasil para ver el otro lado de las majestuosas Cataratas del Iguazú ❣️.
The Landmark itself is a small obelisk painted with the flag of Argentina. From what I could see in internet photos, in Paraguay and Brazil there is the same monument, of course painted with the corresponding flags. It would have been great to have had enough time to visit all three, but for now I'll settle for having been able to visit at least this one ❣️.
El Hito en sí mismo es un pequeño obelisco pintado con la bandera de Argentina. Por lo que pude ver en fotos de internet, en Paraguay y en Brasil se encuentra el mismo monumento, por supuesto pintado con las banderas correspondientes. Hubiese sido genial tener el tiempo suficiente para visitar los tres, pero por ahora me conformo con haber podido visitar al menos este ❣️.

I was so busy walking around and in the mall that when I looked at the time it was already like 8:30 PM and the light show had never started. I asked one of the merchants if it would start at some point and he told me NO, that they only did it on Saturdays and Sundays and that day was Tuesday. Well, I guess I forgot to check that little detail on the internet, but anyway I appreciate the walk because it was a good place to hang out and get some exercise in the process 😅.
Estaba tan entretenida caminando por allí y en el centro comercial que cuando miré la hora ya eran como las 8.30 PM y el show de luces nunca había empezado. Pregunté a uno de los comerciantes si en algún momento empezaría y me dijo que NO, que eso lo hacían solo los sábados y domingos y ese día era martes. Bueno, supongo que olvidé fijarme ese pequeño detalle en Internet pero de todas formas agradezco la caminata porque fue un buen lugar para ir a pasar el rato y de paso hacer algo de ejercicio 😅.

¡Qué bien! Hace algunos años cuando fui para allá y crucé para ir a las cataratas del lado brasileño, no había hito o al menos yo no lo vi, todo el lugar se ve más organizado que en ese entonces jeje.
Según lo que googlie del lado de Brasil esta el mismo mini obelisco pero amarillo y verde. Y yo también habia ido hace unos años pero ni nos llevaron a este lugar, capaz es algo un poco nuevo 😅.

That looks like a fun trip! I'm sure it might have been a little sketchy walking around a place at night like that but you did a good job! One thing I love about places that shut all the lights off at night is that you can see the stars really well! Here in America, you're lucky if you can see stars while living along the coast. There is so much light that you can't see shit lol
A journey will be very difficult for someone to stop, difficult to leave it like you are doing this. What becomes addicted is that when we find beautiful views from various sides, both in the city and in the wild, it feels very pleasant.
I'm guessing that your place is safe since you can walk at night. I can't do that, not that dangerous but I'm still afraid. By the way, the obelisk looks awesome.
