If you like hiking and you are traveling in a place surrounded by mountains, you are not likely to get bored. Even if you think you've done everything interesting, there will always be more to do. During my travel days in the city of Ushuaia, I went for a walk almost every afternoon, which allowed me to see the touristy places as well as the not so touristy ones. I liked this because I could have the most classic postcards of the place, but also those that usually visitors do not know. This is the case of the landscape that can be seen from the summit of Mount Susana, perhaps not so well known but worth knowing 😃.
Si te gustan las caminatas y te encuentras de viaje en un lugar rodeado de montañas, la probabilidad de que te aburras es nula. Aunque pienses que ya hiciste todo lo interesante, siempre va a haber algo más que hacer. En mis días de viaje en la ciudad de Ushuaia, casi todas mis tardes salí a pasear, lo que me permitió conocer los lugares turísiticos como los no tanto. Esto me gustó porque pude tener las postales más clásicas del lugar, pero también aquellas que usualmente los visitantes no conocen. Este es el caso del paisaje que se ve desde la cumbre del Monte Susana, quizás no tan difundido pero que vale la pena conocer 😃.
One of the things I liked most about Ushuaia, unlike the rest of the places I've been, is that there was Uber service. This travel platform allows cheap transfers, even at half price compared to regular cabs. Since there are not so many public bus networks in the city, having this option was very useful to get to those places that cannot be reached on foot. Also, there were evenings when I was alone, like this day, so I had to pay for a whole trip on my own, but with Uber it was not so expensive 😃.
Una de las cosas que más me gustó de Ushuaia, a diferencia del resto de lugares en los que estuve, es que había servicio de Uber. Esta plataforma de viajes permite hacer traslados baratos, incluso a mitad de precio en comparación con los taxis regulares. Ya que en la ciudad no hay tantas redes de colectivos públicos, contar con esta opción era muy útil para llegar hasta aquellos lugares que no se puede llegar a caminando. Además, hubieron tardes en las que estuve sola, como este día, así que tuve que pagar un viaje completo por mi cuenta, pero con Uber no me salío tan costoso 😃.
After checking where to go, I decided on Monte Susana, whose trailhead is located 5 km from the city center. For this trip I had paid about $5 and arrived in less than 10 minutes, which seemed more than affordable and a good plan for my day. The thing is that in that area I had no signal and I didn't know how I was going to ask for a car to go back, but I thought "5 km more in addition to the hike I have planned, it won't be a big problem" 😅.
Luego de revisar a donde ir, me decidí por el Monte Susana, cuyo inicio de sendero se encuentra a 5 km del centro de la ciudad. Por este viaje había pagado unos $5 y llegué en menos de 10 minutos, lo que me pareció más que accesible y un buen plan para mi dia. La cuestión es que en esa zona ya no tenía señal y no sabía como iba a hacer para pedir un auto para volver, pero pensé "5 km más además de la caminata que tengo planeada, no será un gran problema" 😅.
You could tell that this mountain was not so touristy from the moment you arrived and all its signage was lying on the ground. At least they left it there and didn't take it down, because I helped myself with that to get my bearings. In the first part of the road there was a path that shortened the path of the cars and had a fairly significant slope, so you gained altitude quickly. Significant unevenness always means great demand for the legs, but this was later compensated with a gradual ascent inside the lenga forest 😃.
Se notaba que este monte no era tan turístico desde que llegabas y toda su cartelería estaba tirada en el piso. Al menos la dejaron ahí y no la sacaron, porque me ayudé con eso para orientarme. En la primera parte del camino había un sendero que acortaba el camino de los autos y tenía un desnivel bastante importante, por lo que ganabas altura rápidamente. Desnivel importante siempre significa gran exigencia para las piernas, pero esto después se compensó con una subida gradual dentro del bosque de lengas 😃.
Although the path was marked with yellow signs, the trail was not very well trodden so you had to move carefully. In all this stretch I did not come across absolutely no one, which gave an idea of how little visited the place was. When I finally reached the viewpoint I had planned, I sat down for a while to rest, even though I had been walking for just over an hour. At this viewpoint there was a seat where you could sit and contemplate the scenery ❣️.
Si bien el camino estaba señalizado con chapitas amarillas, no estaba muy pisado el sendero así que había que moverse con cuidado. En todo este tramo no me crucé con absolutamente nadie, lo que daba idea de lo poco visitado del lugar. Cuando finalmente llegué al mirador que tenía previsto, me senté un rato a descansar, a pesar de que estuve caminando apenas un poco más de una hora. En este mirador había un asiento en el que te podías quedar contemplando el paisaje ❣️.
Ushuaia is really beautiful: the southernmost city in the world began as a small village for the most dangerous prisoners in the country and years later became this incredible tourist place. What amazed me most about this viewpoint is that you could see the entire peninsula where the city's airport is located, parallel to it. You can also see from there what was the old airport, perpendicular to the city. In the early years, airplanes had to take off and land passing over the city and in a much smaller space for maneuvers, which caused several accidents. The new runway looks noticeably larger and now the planes arrive over the Beagle Channel, without flying over the urbanization 😃.
Ushuaia es realmente hermosa: la ciudad más austral del mundo empezó siendo un pequeño poblado para los prisioneros más peligrosos del país y años después se convirtió en este increíble lugar turístico. Lo que más me asombró de este mirador es que se podía ver por completo la península en la que se ubica el aeropuerto de la ciudad, en sentido paralelo a ella. También se puede ver desde ahí lo que era el antiguo aeropuerto, en sentido perpendicular a la ciudad. En los primeros años, los aviones tenían que despegar y aterrizar pasando por sobre la ciudad y en un espacio mucho más pequeño para maniobras, lo que produjo varios accidentes. La nueva pista se ve notablemente más grande y ahora los aviones llegan por sobre el canal de Beagle, sin sobrevolar la urbanización 😃.
After sitting there for a while, the first person I saw all afternoon appeared, after the Uber driver. It was Patricia, a woman who was also traveling alone because "her husband does not like to travel and she was not going to stay without seeing Ushuaia". We quickly became friends, as with those people with whom there is a good vibe from the moment. We chatted a bit about why she decided to go to this not so touristy place and she told me that it was because 600 meters above sea level seemed easy for someone who does not walk regularly and that was the case, because she got there without any problems 😅.
Después de quedarme un rato sentada ahí en el mirador, apareció la primera persona que ví en toda la tarde, después del chofer del Uber. Se trataba de Patricia, una mujer que también estaba de viaje sola porque "a su esposo no le gusta viajar y ella no se iba a quedar sin conocer Ushuaia". Rápidamente nos hicimos amigas, como con esas personas con las que hay buena onda desde el instante. Nos quedamos charlando un poco de por qué decidió ir a este lugar no tan turístico y me dijo que fue porque 600 msnm parecían fáciles para alguien que no camina regularmente y así fue, porque llegó hasta ahí sin problemas 😅.
From the amount of rocks that were piled up very close to this viewpoint, I knew that many people made this place "their summit". When you got to this part, everything looked pretty flat, but if you looked in the direction of the Chilean border, you could see what the real summit was. Patricia also wanted to go to the summit, so we both continued on our way a little further. In this part, the trail was no longer well marked, but there was only one direction to continue ascending so we went and in less than half an hour we reached the real summit 💕.
Por la cantidad de piedras que habían amontanadas muy cerca de este mirador, supe que mucha gente hacía de este lugar "su cumbre". Cuando llegabas a esta parte, todo se veía bastante plano, pero si mirabas en dirección a la frontera chilena, se notaba cuál era la verdadera cumbre. Patricia también quería ir hasta la cumbre, así que las dos continuamos el camino un poco más allá. En esta parte, el sendero ya no estaba bien marcado, pero solo había una dirección para seguir ascendiendo así que fuimos y en menos de media hora llegamos a la cumbre real 💕.
Unfortunately we could not stay long because it was too windy, but we had good views of the Beagle Channel, Tierra del Fuego National Park and some snow-capped peaks already belonging to our neighboring country. Before going there I had investigated that there was another way down from the mountain towards the park, but with Patricia we concluded that we would go back the "same way". Well, I don't know what happened, but we got a bit lost in the forest and ended up going down a different trail than the one we both took at the beginning. The important thing is that when you are coming down a mountain, whenever you are descending you always get to the street level even if you take a longer path, and that's how it was 😂.
Lamentablemente no pudimos quedarnos mucho porque el viento que había era demasiado, pero pudimos tener unas buenas vistas del Canal de Beagle, el Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego y algunos picos nevados ya pertenecientes a nuestro país vecino. Antes de ir había investigado que exisitía otro camino para bajar del monte en dirección al parque, pero con Patricia concluímos en que mejor volveríamos por "el mismo camino". Bueno, no sé que pasó pero nos perdimos un poco en el bosque y terminamos bajando por otro sendero diferente al que ambas hicimos al inicio. Lo importante es que cuando estas bajando de una montaña, siempre que estes descendiendo llegas al nivel de la calle aunque tomes un camino más largo, y así fue 😂.
Luckily for me, my new companion was another regular user of the "hitchhiking" mode, so this is what we did to get back to the city. Within minutes of getting off, a man and his son got us to the center faster than we thought possible. This allowed Patricia and I some extra time to stop by a bar for a few beers. It may not have been so fit on our part, but at least we had gotten enough exercise during the day in the Susana Mount 😇.
Para mi suerte, mi nueva acompañante era otra usuaria regular de la modalidad de "hacer dedo", así que esto fue lo que hicimos para regresar a la ciudad. A los pocos minutos de haber bajado, un hombre y su hijo nos acercaron hasta el centro más rápido de lo que creíamos. Esto nos permitió a Patricia y a mí tener algo de tiempo extra para pasar por un bar a tomar unas cervezas. No habrá sido tan fit de nuestra parte, pero al menos ya habíamos hecho bastante ejercicio durante el día en el Monte Susana 😇.

How great that you could use the Uber service to get around and see some beautiful places in the city, plus their prices are very convenient.
That's the good thing about the city, that there are many beautiful places and they are not very far away, and by car you can access them in a few minutes.

I myself like such places very much and from my childhood it is very relaxing to visit such places. All these natural sights that are there are very good and here if we visit such places. If we have to go, we have to travel for a long time.
