Sunday activities in the city of Baguio include the market encounter in Session Road which used to be a temporary event but now it seems a permanent one.

Whenever you visit a certain place, going to market is one of the best ways to know more about the people and the locality.

#MarketFriday is brought to you by @dswigle.  For more information about this awesome initiative, head on to @dswigle's latest post Grapes to Glass Tour at the Bull Run Winery: Market Friday: Part One to be guided how to join this community.

For this week's #MarketFriday, let's see how colorful this #BeautifulSunday is and how #SublimeSunday.  #BeautifulSunday is an initiative of @ace108
and #SublimeSunday is an initiative of @c0ff33a.

Before coffee, let's start with the market first.

September 1 is the city's charter day.  Celebrating that for just a day is not enough.  Therefore, some activities are being held for the whole month of September and one of them is the market encounter at Malcolm Square.

Coming from our jeepney terminal, we went straight to the square to check out what can we see there.  The past couple of weeks have been a stormy week that's why it's only know that we have had the chance to visit.

Taken from the overpass beside the square.
Taken from the overpass beside the square.

It's a busy square but not as busy as I was expecting it to be.  One thing reason we avoid the city center is the crowd most especially weekends.

Blood letting is a regular activity here in the city.
Blood letting is a regular activity here in the city.

There are tents for those who want to donate blood and also for national ID registration.  Blood supply is not as available as it seems that's why those who can donate are encouraged to donate.  The national ID on the other hand is met with lots of issues.  The promised date of availability for these IDs seemed to be just that, a promise.

From where we enter, to the far right of the square are these assorted accessories.  There are also items made from faux leather and more accessories to the other end of this shop.

In the middle of the square is a red tent where measuring blood pressure and blood sugar are being offered for free.

Beside the red tent is this stall selling different kinds of bags, wallets and some colorful lanterns.

Next to it is a shop that sells colorful toys and hanging decors and lanterns.

I then headed to the opposite of the square and saw this "tingi" shop.  "Tingi" refers to small amount or quantity.

This board is placed in front of the shop.
This board is placed in front of the shop.

This board is enough to convince me to look around.  They have a wide range of products sold there from body products to home products.  They even have tea, coffee, dried food, and many more.

I hope more businesses will do this thing where you can bring your own containers and refill them with as much products that you need.

I was interested for their hair products so that's what I bought.  I'll probably be coming back for some dishwashing liquid and bring an empty container for that.  Good thing they also have a physical store and I was informed by the lady there that they have more products on their store to choose from.

As we were about to exit the square, this stall caught my attention.  These products from Ilocos region are being sold anywhere in the city. It's one of the products that I like.  I planned on buying some stuff on way home but forgot to do so.  I'm not too worried for I'm sure these will be available anywhere in the city anyway.

When I read this, from what I saw, aside from the Tingi Station, there is nothing eco-friendly about the products showcased there.  Nothing transformative change there that I saw but encouraged people to buy more and consume more.

Next, we then headed to Session Road market encounter.

It's chalk art syndrome indeed.  The Sunday market encounter in Baguio City is not complete without this activity.  Even though were already there past 9:00 a.m., there were only a few arts and some were just starting.

The lower part of Session Road are stalls of plants for sale.

There's a wide array of tree saplings, herbs, indoor and outdoor plants, flowering and non-flowering plants, succulents and cacti and many more.  I was hoping to find cilantro but none of them have it.

As we walked further up the road, food, fruits and vegetables line up.  Seedless Satsuma oranges dominates and we couldn't help but buy some of those.  These citrus fruits come from the citrus capital of the country of the country, Nueva Vizcaya.

I noticed that most of the leafy vegetables are wilted.

What caught my attention the most are these pears from Bauko, Mountain Province.

These are definitely smaller than the pears that we see in the market and they have thicker skin.  I tried eating with the skin but it was bitter.  This is more compact, tastes more sour but still juicy and delicious.  I didn't know these were grown here.  I posted it online and some of my friends who hail from Mountain Province said that that was common in their place.  Why this is not widely sold or produced is interesting.  These should be promoted more.

This shop mostly sells notebooks with Baguio printed on the cover.  Other items are shirts, wallets, bags also with Baguio printed on them.

Color upon color seems to be the theme for this Sunday market encounter in Baguio City from multi-dyed products to knitted products.  It brightens this cloudy and gloomy day.

We then headed to a mall nearby just for one particular product.

I ran out of the perfume that I bought from this shop in one of the market encounters somewhere in the city some months ago.  I didn't know where they were located in the mall but it was an easy find.

Here are different products they offer that one can sample.
Here are different products they offer that one can sample.

There was one particular scent that I liked during our visit then but they ran out of it good thing they have it available on this branch.

From there, we continued on to the rest of the market encounter but this time the other side of the road going down.

Cosplayers can be seen up and down the road which attract people and have selfies with them.

There were also musicians there to entertain just like this groups of visually impaired.

We got ourselves some rice wine to try.  Most of the time, we buy bugnay wine.  This time, we decided for rice wine.

From the Sunday market encounter in Baguio City, we then headed to the new cafe in one of the malls.  This is near our jeepney terminal so it was convenient for us and dropped there for some coffee and bread.

Valley Bread is the biggest producer of baked goods in La Trinidad, the town next to Baguio City.  They have been supplying not only the town and city but also the regions nearby.  It's good that they have opened a cafe in the city so they can service people more.

Of course, the main purpose is to bring breads and pastries to the city.  The cafe is an option.

The cafe is located at the mezzanine above the cashier.  It's just a small area that could get cramped if filled with customers.

This used to be a music store where I used to frequent when tapes and CDs are a thing.  I like to hang out there just browsing and listening to samples.

I like what they have done with the place.  They maximized it for sure.

We ordered French press coffee.  They have three coffee options to choose from:  Shilan, Atok and Sagada.  Shilan and Atok are in Benguet Province while Sagada is located in Mount Province.

We settled for Shilan for I don't see that often.  I have tried Atok and Sagada and both are good single-origin coffee for me.

We paired that with black bean brioche bun and long john.

I completely agree with what the neon-lighted message on the wall but I would like to add great coffee and great friends :)

I forgot to inquire who made the mural. That shows the traditional attire we have here in the Cordilleras.  The different kinds of weaving in the background represents each region.

With that, we then called it a day and headed home.

The perfume from Amparo's Apothecary costs PHP320.00 (USD5.63).  It used to be PHP300.00.  It still comes with a hand soap sample.

The products on the right are from Tingi Station and those are gugo shampoo and conditioner.  (More about gugo here.  It's a woody plant and the shampoo comes from it's bark.  This is said to promote hair growth and had been used traditionally as shampoo.  Both the shampoo and conditioner costs PHP100.00 (USD1.76).

Rice wine costs PHP180.00 (USD3.17).  While there was no sugar added in it, it still has that sweet taste and the alcohol hits you right away.

The rest of the our purchase are onions, garlic and broccoli.  The broccoli are already cut in pieces but still expensive at PHP120.00 (USD2.11) for half kilo.

So there goes our Sunday market encounter in Baguio City with coffee and on the side for #BeautifulSunday and #SublimeSunday.

So much… very cool. Love the photographs and the feel of the edit.
Everywhere is so colourful.
The stalls and shops that do “bring your own containers” are just brilliant. Hope to see it more and more. There are a few small ones around here, but not enough.

Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful new week 👋🏻😊☀️

There is one other shop that I know who do this but sadly it closed. We definitely need more of this.

Have a wonderful one too!

Quite a wide variety of things there. Looks like it's not a hot day

If it's not raining, it's cloudy. That's the general kind of weather we have been having here :D

Quite the same as what we are experiencing here.

The toys look so cute, uncle Arif 😀

They are soft and squishy too :D
