I would not be surprised if many of you who are not in Africa have even really heard of the country Togo, let alone its capital Lome. Togo is a small country to the east of Ghana, sandwiched between Ghana and Benin with the ocean to the south and Burkina Faso to the north. Lome is a growing city that is right on the border with Ghana. And Basically it and the town on the Ghana side Afloa are one city with a border in the middle.
One of the things that I love about Lome is that when you drive down the main N1 West African Motor Way it runs with the beach on one side and the city on the other side. The beach and general environment is much cleaner and less trash than Ghana also, including the beach.
The last time I was there was in 2016, and I was there for business visiting my francophone business partner and some of our client hotels. I got a chance to walk around the city a bit get some photos and interact with some people. I speak 0 French though so it makes it interesting. People were very friendly though.
I grabbed this black and white shot while walking through an industrial area where a lot of trucks and tractors and things were parked and being worked on.
A Muslim palm date seller. Selling little baggies of dates on the street.
Walking through the back streets I came across this nice little urban farming area between warehouses and homes, a little green corridor.
One morning on the beach I met this fishermen using a throw net, a very difficult skill. Look at how clean the beach is though.
A few more street scenes from my wanderings.
I am always a sucker for snapping some street art.
I don't think you can say you have visited any African city without visiting the market.
In the next day I will do another post on Lome, this time we will go through the voodoo market, as this is the birthplace of voodoo.
