I hadn't seen my sister for a few months because she studies at the University of Havana, in the country's capital. More than my sister, she has always been my best friend, even though we have our differences, we seek to meet again and share time together. On this occasion, the reunion has a crucial objective, a little sad, but necessary. So to forget about the goodbyes and hasty nostalgia, we went to "Al Carajo", an open-air Bar-Terrace in one of the tallest buildings in the city center. Located in what was formerly the "Cine Oriente", now known as "Centro Cultural Alegro", a site that is currently very popular among young people.
Hacía algunos meses que no veía a mi hermana porque estudia en la Universidad de La Habana, en la capital del país. Más que mi hermana ha sido mi mejor amiga desde siempre, aún teniendo nuestras diferencias, buscamos reencontrarnos y compartir tiempo juntas. En esta ocasión, el reencuentro tiene un objetivo crucial, un poco triste, pero, necesario. Así que para olvidarnos de las despedidas y las nostalgias precipitadas, nos fuimos "Al Carajo", un Bar-Terraza al aire libre en uno de los edificios más altos del centro de la ciudad. Ubicado en lo que antiguamente fuera el "Cine Oriente", ahora conocido como "Centro Cultural Alegro", sitio que goza de gran popularidad entre los jóvenes actualmente.
The site is quite retro, colorful, full of graffiti and decorated with drawings of artistic personalities of various manifestations: Frida Kahlo, Dalí, Marilyn Moroe, Charles Chaplin among others. Actually, it's not that this is original, but it's not bad aesthetically either. You hear good music, varied above all, for different tastes and almost every Saturday there are shows where the main objective is to provide presentation space for local talent.
El sitio es bastante retro, colorido, lleno de grafitis y decorado con dibujos de personalidades artísticas de varias manifestaciones: Frida Kahlo, Dalí, Marilyn Moroe, Charles Chaplin entre otros. En realidad, no es que esto tenga original, pero, tampoco resulta mal estéticamente hablando. Se escucha buena música, variada sobre todo, para los diversos gustos y casi todos los sábados hay Shows dónde el principal objetivo es brindarle espacio de presentación al talento local.
The night had nuances. We stayed until around 2:00 am, and we arrived around 10:00 at night, so it was a few hours to dance, have a few drinks, make a toast, keep silent and observe each other, like someone who wants to say many things at the same time but in the end he doesn't say anything.
La noche tuvo matices. Estuvimos hasta cerca de las 2:00 am, y llegamos sobre las 10:00 de la noche, así que, fueron unas cuantas horas para bailar, tomarnos unos tragos, hacer un brindis, guardar silencio y observarnos, como quien quiere decir muchas cosas a la vez pero al final no dice nada.
We have always loved dancing. It's like therapy that we do when things aren't going well for some reason, or when we've had a very stressful week, when we need to get tired so we can sleep well and wake up refreshed the next day. This time it was a league of all those things together 😆.
Siempre nos ha gustado muchísimo bailar. Es como terapia que hacemos cuando las cosas no van bien por algún motivo, o cuando hemos tenido una semana demasiado estresante, cuando necesitamos cansarnos para poder dormir bien y al día siguiente levantarme como nuevas. Esta vez fue una liga de todas esas cosas juntas 😆.
The reunion with friends was also the reason for celebration for the night. My sister was happy to finally be able to take this trip to our hometown. I looked at them and was amazed to see that they are no longer the children they used to be. I am eight years older than my sister and her friends, and I saw almost all of them grow up, well, they have studied together since primary school. Today there are men and women who study university degrees, have economic ventures, some are even already thinking about formalizing their relationships, creating families... And, I think, For God's sake!!! How quickly time passes 😱.
El reencuentro con los amigos también fue el motivo de celebración para la noche. Mi hermana estaba feliz de poder finalmente haber realizado este viaje a nuestra ciudad natal. Yo los miraba y me asombraba de ver que ya no son los niños de antes, le llevo ocho años a mi hermana y a sus amigos, q casi todos los vi crecer, pues, han estudiado juntos desde la escuela primaria. Hoy son hombres y mujeres que estudian carreras universitarias, tienen emprendimientos económicos, algunos incluso ya están pensando en formalizar sus relaciones, crear familias... Y, pienso, ¡Por Dios!!! Que rápido pasa el tiempo 😱.
It was a beautiful night!!! I recommend the site. The entrance fee costs only 100 Cuban pesos, much less than a dollar at the exchange rate in the informal market, although in the state market the entrance fee to the place is still below a dollar. The prices inside are also affordable, especially for foreigners. So, you know, friends. On Saturdays, especially, it is usually one of the most requested offers by young people between 16 and 30 years old in the city.
Fue una noche hermosa!!! Les recomiendo el sitio. El cover de la entrada cuesta solo 100 pesos cubanos, mucho menos de un dólar al cambio en el mercado informal, aunque en el mercado estatal igual sigue quedando por debajo del dólar la entrada al lugar. Los precios dentro también son asequibles, sobre todo para extranjeros. Así que, ya saben, amigos. Los sábados sobre todo suele ser una de las ofertas más solicitadas por los jóvenes de entre 16 hasta 30 años en la ciudad.
