Spring Break in the Pocono Mountains

in Pinmapple2 months ago (edited)

We've been trying to decide where to relocate, and Pennsylvania is on our list of possibilities. Since I love the mountains, I figured we would go look at a place in the Poconos. Our spring break trip to the Pocono Mountains did not go as expected. I ended up having some car issues right before the trip, so the schedule had to be switched around. As planned, we rode the Easter Bunny Express train in Jim Thorpe and looked at a house in Monroe County. However, the rest of the activities were impromptu, since I didn't plan the trip very well. We stayed in White Haven, so we ended up doing stuff closer to that area. The trip did not go ask expected, but I still discovered some amazing places in the area. Check out my photos below:

Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe is an adorable fairytale mountain town named after an Olympic gold medalist. They had an Easter train ride for kids in Jim Thorpe which featured a scenic ride through the Lehigh Gorge State Park while the Easter bunny rode the train and came around to meet the kids.

Hickory Run State Park

We originally sought to go to the playground at Hickory Run State Park but it was closed. So, we decided to go to the Boulder Field. This landmark is considered a natural wonder since it remains unknown exactly how it was formed.

Eckley's Miners Village

I had never heard of this outdoor museum before. I happened to see it on the map of attractions nearby, so I figured we would check it out. After all, this region, in general, is known for mining coal. Some of the stuff was still closed from the Winter season, but it was still open for people to walk through the village outside. It is a preserved nineteenth century coal mining town that sits in the middle of nowhere. Most of the houses looked empty, but some actually have people that live in them. We even saw a Fed Ex truck come through to deliver a package. You could tell which houses were occupied because they had mailboxes in front of them. Throughout the mining town, there are homes, a couple churches, a doctor's office, and a general store. I was really amazed by this place and was glad we discovered it.
