That's how it used to work for me too but lately it doesn't. I have the latest Chrome. That's so weird. Will have a look later - thanks.
Found out why it happens. I thought the link button works like others do (highlight the text then link it). Instead this one puts links individually regardless what you highlight. Just FYI, might be useless info of the day anyway :)
