En el siguiente artículo, quiero compartir con ustedes mi aventura en Nîmes. Llevaba tiempo planificando este viaje, influenciada por mis deseos de volver a Francia, ya que viví allí un tiempo, cuando llegué a Europa.

In the following article, I want to share with you my adventure in Nîmes. I had been planning this trip for a while, influenced by my desire to return to France, as I lived there for a while when I first came to Europe.
Así que escogí específicamente esta ciudad, porque últimamente estoy disfrutando mucho de las ciudades del sur, que gozan de un buen clima.
So I specifically chose this city, because lately I am really enjoying the cities in the south, which enjoy a good climate.
Debo decir, que una de las cosas que más llamó mi atención, es que es conocida como ✨"La Roma francesa"✨.¡Acompáñenme en el siguiente artículo, para entender porqué este nombre le hace justicia!
I must say, that one of the things that caught my attention, is that it is known as ✨"French Rome"✨. Join me in the following article, to understand why this name does it justice!
🎒 Mi llegada
Hice este viaje partiendo desde Madrid junto a mi pareja. Decidimos hacerlo en autobús con Flixbus ✅, para ahorrar algo de dinero. El trayecto fue bastante largo. Duró aproximadamente 10 horas, así que optamos por viajar de noche para dormir durante el camino y no perder tiempo del día.
🎒 My arrival
I made this trip departing from Madrid with my partner. We decided to do it by bus with Flixbus ✅, to save some money. The journey was quite long. It took about 10 hours, so we chose to travel at night to sleep on the way and not lose time during the day.
Aunque fue una buena opción en cuanto a presupuesto, recomiendo hacerlo en avión ✈️ si prefieres más comodidad y no llegar tan cansado al destino.
Although it was a good option in terms of budget, I recommend flying ✈️ if you prefer more comfort and don't want to arrive at your destination so tired.
🌳 A nuestra llegada a la ciudad nos sorprendió mucho el clima, cuando viví en Francia fue al norte del país, donde el clima era bastante frío y nublado. En cambio acá el ambiente era muy soleado y con una vegetación muy viva.
🌳 When we arrived in the city, we were very surprised by the weather. When I lived in France, it was in the north of the country, where the weather was quite cold and cloudy. Here, on the other hand, the atmosphere was very sunny and the vegetation was very lively.
🌟 Y hubo algo que me impactó muchísimo: llegando al centro, nos encontramos con un anfiteatro romano, entendí que de ahí el sobrenombre de la ciudad, pero de esto hablaremos más adelante. Además, también me pareció curioso, cuán desarrollada y tecnológica se veía Nîmes para ser una ciudad del sur: los autobuses, la limpieza, todo estaba sumamente organizado...
🌟 And there was something that really struck me: when we got to the centre, we came across a Roman amphitheatre, hence the city's nickname, but we'll talk about that later. I also found it curious how developed and technological Nîmes looked for a city in the south: the buses, the cleanliness, everything was extremely organised...
🏟️ Anfiteatro Romano
Arribamos a nuestro destino, alrededor de las 10 a.m., aún no podíamos hacer la entrada en el hotel, (era a las 2 pm). Pero no perderíamos el tiempo. Pasamos por un MacDonald's para comer algo rápido y comenzar a explorar sin gastar mucho
🏟️ Roman Amphitheatre
We arrived at our destination, around 10 a.m., still unable to check in at the hotel, (it was at 2 p.m.). But we wouldn't waste any time. We stopped by a MacDonald's to grab a quick bite to eat and start exploring without spending too much.
Nos dirigimos al anfiteatro romano que fue lo primero que nos impresionó y uno de los destinos más destacados y emblemáticos de la ciudad 🌆.
We headed to the Roman amphitheatre which was the first thing that impressed us and one of the most outstanding and emblematic destinations in the city 🌆.
¡Nos pareció increíble cómo una arquitectura tan antigua se mantenía tan bien conservada 🤩! Lamentablemente no pudimos entrar, la fila era muy larga. Pero aun así disfrutamos de una hermosa e imponente vista desde el exterior.
We found it amazing how such old architecture was so well preserved 🤩! Unfortunately we couldn't get in, the line was too long. But we still enjoyed the beautiful and impressive view from the outside.
🏙️ Centro de la ciudad
El centro de la ciudad, se encontraba lleno de vida y estaba planeado como todo un entretenimiento, además de ser una mezcla entre lo moderno y lo antiguo. Frente al coliseo, se podía ver una estatua en honor a un famoso matador nimeño, a quien los españoles apodaron así por su trayectoria en las corridas de toro.
🏙️ City centre
The city centre, was full of life and was planned as a whole entertainment, as well as being a mix between the modern and the ancient. In front of the coliseum, you could see a statue in honour of a famous matador from Nimeño, whom the Spaniards nicknamed this way because of his career in bullfighting.

También nos llamó la atención, un parque de diversiones que habían instalado cerca, con una rueda gigante y otras atracciones. Aunque no supimos si está ahí todo el año, o era solo por temporada.
We were also struck by an amusement park that had been set up nearby, with a giant wheel and other attractions. Although we did not know if it is there all year round, or if it was only seasonal.
🎖️ Memorial a la Primera y Segunda Guerra Mundial
Caminando por el centro, también visitamos el memorial por la Primera y Segunda Guerra Mundial. Estructura que llama mucho la atención, por su solemnidad y presencia.

Walking through the centre, we also visited the memorial for the First and Second World War. It is a structure that attracts a lot of attention because of its solemnity and presence.

Dentro se encuentran grabados los nombres de las batallas, y los nimeños fallecidos en esos conflictos, tanto en la Primera, como en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, lo que impresiona por el respeto con el que recuerdan a sus caídos.
Inside are engraved the names of the battles and the Nimeños who died in those conflicts, both in the First and Second World War, which is impressive for the respect with which they remember their fallen.
🏛️📜 Maison Carrée
Continuando el recorrido, y entre paseos y muchas compras, dimos con la "Maison Carrée", que fue un templo romano, dedicado a los nietos del emperador Augusto. Se considera Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, así que queda muy poco por añadir, pero aún así sorpende.

Continuing the tour, and between walks and lots of shopping, we came across the "Maison Carrée", which was a Roman temple, dedicated to the grandchildren of Emperor Augustus. It is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so there is very little left to add, but it is still surprising.

It is as if a supernatural imprint were holding it up, keeping it firm over time. And becoming an indelible symbol of the city's history, which seems to have wanted to remain there in perpetuity.
🍃 Jardines de la Fontaine:
Al día siguiente, y desde bien temprano, nos dirigimos a otro de los hermosos lugares de Nîmes: ✨"los Jardines de la Fontaine"✨.

Early the next day, we set off for another of Nîmes' beautiful sites: ✨"the Fontaine Gardens"✨.

🌱 Considerados como el pulmón verde de Nîmes, son una joya magistral de belleza y organización. Bastante amplios e imposibles de recorrer completamente en pocas horas, ya que abarcan 15 hectáreas de pura vegetación, ligadas a un sistema de canales y estanques, los cuales irrigan y propician la flora y fauna del lugar.
🌱 Considered as the green lung of Nîmes, they are a masterly jewel of beauty and organisation. Quite large and impossible to cover completely in a few hours, they cover 15 hectares of pure vegetation, linked to a system of canals and ponds, which irrigate and support the flora and fauna of the site.

Habitan aquí diferentes aves y especies acuáticas. Todo adornado con la más fina ornamentación de estatuas, y el toque vintage del Templo Romano de Diana y la Torre Magna, que se alza en su cúspide, de los cuales hablaré a continuación.
It is home to a variety of birds and aquatic species. All adorned with the finest ornamental statuary, and the vintage touch of the Roman Temple of Diana and the Magna Tower, which stands at its peak, which I will talk about next.

Cruzando los Jardines de la Fontaine, nos encontramos con este Templo Romano, del cuál fue imposible que no nos percataramos.

📌 A pesar de su tamaño e imponencia, según estuvimos investigando, no se tienen muchos detalles de este, ni su función exacta, y sigue siendo un misterio a día de hoy para los investigadores. Existe la posibilidad, de que pudo haber sido un lugar dedicado a cultos religiosos, cosa que era habitual en épocas del Imperio Romano.
📌 In spite of its size and imposing nature, according to our research, we do not have many details about it, nor its exact function, and it remains a mystery to this day for researchers. There is a possibility that it may have been a place dedicated to religious worship, which was common during the Roman Empire.
🏰 Torre Magna
Luego de una larga y exhaustiva caminata por los Jardines de la Fontaine, finalmente pudimos llegar a la famosa Torre Magna. Dónde, desde su cima, pudimos disfrutar de una hermosa vista panorámica de toda la ciudad.

After a long and exhaustive walk through the Jardins de la Fontaine, we were finally able to reach the famous Magna Tower. Where, from the top, we could enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the whole city.

Hoy en día, sigue en pie, siendo una parte importante también de la historia de Nîmes y combinando su pasado celta con el romano.

🚌 Fin de la Aventura
De esta forma concluimos nuestro viaje. Con un dejo de melancolía, nos acercamos a un café para tomar nuestra ultima merienda en la ciudad, mientras pensaba en cuanto iba a extrañar este lugar: el clima, la historia y la energía que se respiraba.

Thus we concluded our journey. With a hint of melancholy, we approached a café for our last snack in the city, while I thought about how much I was going to miss this place: the weather, the history and the energy.

🏠 Unas pocas horas después, ya llegada la noche, tomamos nuestro autobús de regreso a casa, con la esperanza de volver algún día, pues aún nos quedaron muchos rincones por recorrer.
