Hallo liebe Community,
genau pünktlich zum beginn des Gewitters hatten wir ein schönes Restaurant gefunden. Unter der großen Markise des Mamma Mia machten wir es uns gerade gemütlich, als das Gewitter direkt über uns los brach. Es schüttete wie aus Kübeln und Donner und Blitze zuckten um uns herum. Andere hatten nicht so viel glück wie wir und suchten in der Umgebung auf dem Markt nach Schutz und Unterstand. Als unser Essen kam sah es noch lange nicht nach Besserung aus. Dafür war das Essen hevorragend. Meine Frau hatte Pizza mit Trüffeln bestellt und ich nahm die Gnocchi mit Trüffeln. Ein Traum sage ich Euch.
Da draußen noch immer die Welt unterging, zogen wir unser Essen sehr in die Länge. Ich glaube ich habe noch nie so lange für einen espresso nach dem Essen gebraucht wie hier. Letztendlich zog das Gewitter aber vorüber und wir konnten unsere Tour durch Nizza fortsetzen. Wir wolten noch zum Cascade du Château, dem Wasserfall des Schlosshügels. Er befindet sich auf dem Colline du Château, dem Schlosshügel, einer der wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten Nizzas. Obwohl das eigentliche Schloss im Jahr 1706 zerstört wurde, bietet der Park auf dem Hügel einen spektakulären Panoramablick auf die Altstadt, die Promenade des Anglais und die Engelsbucht. Der Wasserfall wurde gebaut, um den Park attraktiver zu machen und zur Sauerstoffanreicherung des Wassers aus dem Vésubie-Kanal beizutragen. Er ist ein beliebtes Fotomotiv und sorgt an heißen Tagen für eine willkommene Erfrischung. Diese war an diesem Tag aber ersten nicht nötig und zweitens leider auch nicht möglich. Man erreicht den Hügel nämlich zu Fuß über Treppen oder bequem mit einem kostenlosen Aufzug. Beide Möglichkeiten waren aber auf Grund der starken Regenfälle des Gewitters für den Rest des Tages gesperrt. Sehr ärgerlich, so konnten wir den Wasserfall nur von unten fotografieren.
So gingen wir also weiter zu einem kleinen hafen, in dem wir zumindest ein paar schöne Fotos einer riesen Yacht machen konnten, die dort vor Anker lag. Auf dem Rückweg zum Bahnhof durchquerten wir die wundervollen engen Gassen der Altstadt, genossen noch ein leckeres Eis und besichtigten einen sagenhaft schöne Kirche. Als wir wieder am Bahnhof ankamen und auf unseren Zug zurück nach Villefranche Sur mer warteten, war wieder fast wolkenloser Himmel und die Sonne strahlte auf uns herab.

We found a lovely restaurant just in time for the storm to start. We were just getting comfortable under the large awning of Mamma Mia when the storm broke out right above us. It was pouring with rain, and thunder and lightning flashed around us. Others weren't as lucky as us and sought shelter and shelter at the nearby market. When our food arrived, things didn't look like they were improving. But the food was excellent. My wife had ordered pizza with truffles, and I had the gnocchi with truffles. A dream, I tell you.
Since the world was still ending outside, we dragged our feet on our meal. I don't think I've ever taken as long for an espresso after dinner as it did here. Eventually, the storm passed, and we were able to continue our tour of Nice. We wanted to go to the Cascade du Château, the waterfall on the castle hill. It is located on the Colline du Château, the Castle Hill, one of Nice's most important sights. Although the actual castle was destroyed in 1706, the park on the hill offers spectacular panoramic views of the old town, the Promenade des Anglais, and the Bay of Saint Angels. The waterfall was built to enhance the park's appeal and to help oxygenate the water from the Vésubie Canal. It's a popular photo opportunity and provides welcome refreshment on hot days. However, this wasn't necessary on this day, and unfortunately, it wasn't possible either. You can reach the hill on foot via stairs or comfortably by taking a free elevator. Both options were closed for the rest of the day due to the heavy rain from the storm. Very annoying, so we could only photograph the waterfall from below.
So we continued on to a small harbor, where we were at least able to take a few nice photos of a huge yacht anchored there. On the way back to the train station, we walked through the wonderful narrow streets of the old town, enjoyed a delicious ice cream, and visited a fabulously beautiful church. When we arrived back at the station and waited for our train back to Villefranche-sur-Mer, the sky was almost cloudless again and the sun was shining down on us.
