bei meinen Reisen nach New York war die Freiheitsstatue immer ein ganz besonderes Highlight für mich. Eine Schiffsfahrt durch den Hafen mit der Freiheitsstatue und Ellis Island nimmt in etwa einen halben Tag in Anspruch und es lohnt sich wirklich. Die Größe der Statue ist wirklich beeindruckend und man bekommt ein Gefühl dafür, wie die Einwanderer sich damals gefühlt haben mögen, als sie sie bei der Einfahrt in den Hafen das erste mal gesehen haben. Es gehört natürlich auch dazu, die Stufen zu erklimmen und von der Krone aus den Anblick auf Manhattan zu genießen. Ist zwar etwas eng da drin und die nächsten in der Reihe warten schon aber trotzdem ein tolles Gefühl. Wenn man dann noch einen schönen sonnigen Tag wie wir erwischt ist das natürlich die Krönung des Ganzen. Kleiner Tip: Fast kostenlos bekommt man den Anblick der Statue aus nächster Nähe auch von der Staten Island Ferry. Hier kostet eine Fahrt nur ein paar Cent und wenn man nicht unbedingt direkt auf die Insel zur Statue will, ist das viel günstiger als eines der Touristenboote zu nehmen.

during my trips to New York, the Statue of Liberty was always a very special highlight for me. A boat trip through the harbor with the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island takes about half a day and it is really worth it. The size of the statue is really impressive and you get a sense of how the immigrants may have felt back then when they first saw her entering the harbor. Of course, it also involves climbing the steps and enjoying the view of Manhattan from the crown. It's a bit crowded in there and the next in line are already waiting but still a great feeling. If you then still a beautiful sunny day like we caught is of course the crowning of the whole thing. Small tip: Almost free you get the sight of the statue at close range also from the Staten Island Ferry. Here, a ride costs only a few cents and if you do not necessarily want to go directly to the island to the statue, it is much cheaper than taking one of the tourist boats.
