Twice I have savoured this view up in the clouds on motorbike journeys from Hue to Hoi An on the Hải Vân Pass - roughly translated as "ocean cloud pass". On one side of the pass is the ocean and on the other is the tall forest-clad sub-tropical mountains.
Bạch Mã National Park in central Vietnam is difficult to enjoy without joining an organised tour since it's a steep climb of many miles and the view isn't that great. The best way to go up is via organised tour bus, which you can set up in Hue. I think I booked it online via email [email protected]. But, I'm not sure if they are still running, post- plandemic, so please don't shoot me if the email address does not work.
There was absolutely no litter in the park - and I was very impressed since many times I have been somewhere in Vietnam and there was litter strewn all over the place!
These mountain views never get tiresome.
When we come to a clearing in the walk, through the mist and clouds we see old Buddhist structures like this. It's very atmospheric. Down below it's 35 degrees celsius and boiling hot, but up here in the clouds it is chilly and we need a jacket.
Some parts of the tour climb are quite challenging. This is my dad and his wife navigating the trickier parts. It's important to watch your step and hold on tight!
After quite a climb, we stop for lunch at a waterfall and take a dip. The water is fairly cold, but after the long walk and climb, it's great to cool off. So refreshing!
