Perfect retreat

in Worldmappin4 months ago

Josone Park is located on 1st Street between 56th and 59th Streets in Varadero, Cuba. A large gate marks the entrance to the park. Its almost 9 hectares are delimited by a wall that protects a unique place. In it concur natural, historical, architectural and cultural values, as well as a variety of flora and fauna.

In the 1930's, Mr. José Fermín Iturrioz y Llaguno, a Basque businessman living in Cuba, bought the plot of land occupied by the park. With the intention of turning it into a place of retreat for him and his wife Onelia Méndez Rubí, he ordered the construction of the first residence, which took three years, where the Dante restaurant is currently located. Together with the other areas, it was inaugurated in 1942.
It was the only green space in Varadero at that time.

The central house, a mansion in neoclassical style, was completed in 1945 and is today the Retiro Josone restaurant. Shortly thereafter, in 1946, a particularly striking building was added, a cabin called La Campana, to which I will dedicate another publication.

The natural beauty is appreciable throughout the park. Countless varieties of plants and animals coexist around Lake "La Paz", the main attraction of the place.

Its exquisite construction and attention to detail show the love with which this space was conceived. It was a gift for the couple's silver wedding anniversary. They named it with the union of the first three letters of their names.

Josone has been open to the public since 1989. It has several restaurants, cafeterias, swimming pool, shops selling handicrafts and a boat rental service for a ride on the waters of the lake.

Perhaps many of those who visit it are unaware of the history behind its construction. I have visited it several times and I knew some things, but for example, I have never been able to go through the subway tunnel that crosses the first street and that went directly to the beach. It is still in operation, but now it leads to the headquarters of the International Diving Center.

The park is undoubtedly an architectural and scenic jewel that has managed to maintain its former splendor despite the passing of time. It is a beautiful place worth visiting and enjoying.

Oh wow... my husband says how beautiful is Cuba with all the posts we are seeing... I completely agree with him, look at this paradise!!

Cuba has beautiful places. Especially its natural landscapes. There is a lot of green and its beaches are divine. In spite of the circumstances it is still una bella isla.
