my excursion to the well La Olla🏞 👣 // my first post in the community

in Worldmappinlast year

Last Sunday, June 11, I went on a somewhat long, but very nice and above all fun excursion. Together with a couple of friends and some other acquaintances we decided to go to the trail that leads to the well La Olla to enjoy the waters of this natural well and the forest that surrounds it.

To get to the entrance of the trail they took us in a bus that was parked right in a place there, where they have a small warehouse and a small fence to protect the cars of the people who go on the excursion. This bus would also take us back to Barquisimeto and Cabudare, which is where my friends and I live.

Once we started walking there were some train tracks and we decided to take some pictures there, as we thought it was nice. The path we were going to take was well defined since many people go there every year to have an adventure and spend a different day. The place is also inhabited by some people, since along the way you find a couple of houses and small farms.

On this first road I describe you walk for about an hour and a half until you reach the next one. Until there it is very easy to arrive since, as I describe it, it is a marked road and without many deviations for which to get lost. Then you get to a fence where you would think you are close to the place but, unlike this, it only indicates that you are half way or maybe even less than half way.

From there you need to know the way or go with guides to avoid getting lost because it starts to be basically a forest in which there is no marked path. In our case several of our acquaintances who were with us already knew the place well and could reach the pot without any problem.

Here it takes about another hour and a half or a little more to reach the place, it is mountains, forests, streams and so on that you have to cross. It is a very uneven and dangerous road in case you are a clumsy person, but it is beautiful because you are in pure nature.

After a lot of walking and being super tired we saw a sign that said "Welcome to the pot". But surprise! There were still about 40 more minutes to go. After passing many illusions that we would arrive at the pot (since there were many more wells and small river branches that confused us) we finally passed by a waterfall and were told that the pot was approximately 5 minutes away.

We walked that other small stretch of road and arrived at our destination. We were very tired but happy and amazed by all the nature and majesty that surrounded us. We were also very anxious to bathe in the waters of the well, but first we ate something and rested for a while to get our strength back and enjoy the place.

After about 15 minutes of rest we went for a swim, the water was very cold but it was enjoyable, a part of the bottom was stones and other land. In terms of depth I could not say how many meters were, but on the banks was shallower than in the middle (where I could not swim for fear because I do not know how to swim very well). There were waterfalls and rocks a little high from which the most daring jumped into the well, I would have liked to jump but I did not have enough courage to do it. Here we lasted about 3-4 hours enjoying the olla and the sartén which is a smaller well that is in the same waterfalls of the olla, about 100m below.

After drying off a bit we hiked back to the waterfall I mentioned before and there we spent about 10 minutes taking pictures and bathing. Once we finished there we dried off well and set out to return to the place where the bus was.

The way back is not so strenuous as it is mostly downhill, while the way back is mostly uphill. We walked back about 3 hours without any problems and once we arrived at the bus we waited for the others who had been delayed a bit to return bus.

I would repeat this excursion a thousand times, I describe the pot as a majestic place despite the long road that must be traversed to get there. It is a unique and fun experience for any adventurer and nature lover.
