Today was a day of adventure, the kind that will stay in your memory for a long time. Mainly because it all started in the early hours of Friday to Saturday, right on Passion Friday, close to Easter. We woke up at 2:30 in the morning with the aim of seeing the sunrise at Pico Cabeça de Formiga, a place about 60 km from where I live. For this to work, we really had to leave very early, since in addition to the drive, we would also have to face a 2-kilometer hike uphill.
With me on this mission were two cousins, the girlfriend of one of them, and my faithful squire (and girlfriend in her spare time), @xlety. Convincing my girlfriend to take part in this little folly was a bit of a challenge, but in the end she agreed, even though she was in a bit of pain, and I was very proud of her.
At around 4:30 in the morning, we started climbing the trail to the peak. You have to pay a fee of R$20.00 (around 4 dollars) halfway up. The climb is steep and, at that time of day, the darkness makes it even more difficult. But the prospect of seeing the sun rise from above encouraged me to keep going.

Hoje foi dia de aventura, daquelas que ficam marcadas na memória por um bom tempo. Principalmente porque tudo começou ainda na madrugada de sexta para sábado, bem na sexta-feira da paixão, pertinho da Páscoa. Acordamos às 2:30 da manhã com o objetivo de ver o nascer do sol no Pico Cabeça de Formiga, um lugar que fica a aproximadamente 60 km de onde moro. Pra isso dar certo, realmente era necessário sair bem cedo, já que além do trajeto de carro, ainda teríamos que encarar uma trilha de cerca de 2 quilômetros de subida.
Nessa missão estavam comigo dois primos, a namorada de um deles, e minha fiel escudeira (e namorada nas horas vagas), a @xlety. Convencer minha namorada a participar dessa pequena loucura foi um desafio à parte, mas no fim, ela topou, mesmo com algumas dores e fiquei bem orgulhoso dela.
Por volta das 4:30 da manhã, começamos a subir a trilha até o pico. É necessário pagar uma taxa de R$20,00 (algo em torno de 4 dólares) na metade do percurso. A subida tem trechos bem íngremes e, naquele horário, a escuridão torna tudo ainda mais complicado. Mas a expectativa de ver o sol nascer lá de cima me encorajava a continuar.
Well, after a bit of sweat and with our legs a bit sore from all the climbing, we managed to reach the peak while it was still dark. We caught our breath, drank some water and waited for a while to see the long-awaited sunrise.
But there was a small problem: it didn't match the weather...
The sun didn't come up today. Well, actually it was there, but the dense fog got in the way of what would have been our reward. But that's okay, it wasn't as we would have liked, but the place is still incredible, very beautiful and for a while we were able to contemplate the landscape, but after the fog cleared even more, everything around us was white.
Luckily, before the fog got thick, I took the drone up and took some pictures:
Bem, depois de um pouco de suor e com as pernas um pouco doloridas de tanto morro, conseguimos chegar no pico ainda bem escuro. Pegamos um fôlego, bebemos uma água e esperamos por um tempo para ver o tão esperado sol nascer.
Mas teve um pequeno problema, faltou combinar isso com o clima...
O sol não nasceu hoje. Bem na verdade ele estava lá, mas a neblina densa atrapalhou o que seria a nossa recompensa. Mas tudo bem, não foi como gostaríamos mas ainda sim o lugar é simplesmente incrível, muito bonito e por um tempo conseguimos contemplar a paisagem, mas depois que a neblina baixou ainda mais, em volta era tudo branco.
Por sorte, antes da neblina ficar densa, eu subi o drone e tirei algumas fotos:
With the fog getting thicker, it was time to take the drone down so as not to risk damaging it with the humidity. We stayed there for a while longer, chatting and telling stories, that kind of simple moment that stays in the memory.
In all honesty, I was a little sad that I hadn't had the chance to see the sun rise. I'd been looking forward to it all week, and I know it would have made everything even more special. But in the end, it was incredible and worth the effort anyway. The place is beautiful, and nature has a very strong presence there. It makes its greatness, its beauty and how much it deserves to be respected very clear. And as I always like to say: the journey should be as much appreciated as the arrival and the company makes everything even more valuable.
So I can say with certainty: yes, it was worth it!
Com a neblina ficando mais densa, foi hora de recolher o drone para não correr o risco de danificá-lo com a umidade. Continuamos ali por mais um tempo, conversando e contando histórias, aquele tipo de momento simples, mas que fica na memória.
Sendo bem sincero, fiquei um pouco triste por não ter tido a chance de ver o sol nascer. Estava ansioso por isso a semana toda, e sei que teria deixado tudo ainda mais especial. Mas, no fim das contas, foi incrível e valeu o esforço mesmo assim. O lugar é bonito, e a natureza tem uma presença muito forte por ali. Ela deixa bem claro sua grandeza, sua beleza e o quanto merece ser respeitada. E como eu sempre gosto de dizer: o percurso deve ser tão apreciado quanto a chegada e a companhia torna tudo ainda mais valioso.
Então, posso dizer com certeza: sim, valeu a pena!
