Marble Beach on Thassos Island, Greece πŸ–οΈ πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·

in Worldmappin β€’ 3 years ago

Hey guys,

Funny thing is that before visiting Thassos in Greece, I thought: why all Romanians go to Thassos? Why are they so desperate about this place? Is it cheaper than other Greek places or what the heck?

I could hear everywhere Thassos, Thassos, Thassos, Thassos.

Thassos, Thassos, Thassos, Thassos, Thassos, Thassos, Thassos, Thassos.

And so the day to visit myself this misterious place came: ughhhhh! Yeah...the only word I can think about is FANTASTIC!

THIS ISLAND IS FANTASTIC!

Now I understand why everyone is in love with this beautiful green land! Those landscapes, the view, the olive trees everywhere, the blue of the sea, the beaches....IT'S BREATH TAKING! Really really REALLY nice!

All right, so....About Thassos island, it has a lot of beautiful beaches! A LOT!

In this post I'll talk about Marble Beach. πŸ–οΈ

MARBLE BEACH IN THASSOS, GREECE

Marble Beach is one of the most fascinating beaches on the island of Thassos.

Arranged in the vicinity of a marble quarry, the landscape created is special - between the mountain that rises spectacularly behind the beach and the sea with crystal clear water.

Due to the immaculate white color of the marble pebbles brought from the neighboring quarry on the beach and in the water, Marble Beach is considered the most beautiful and spectacular beach on the island of Thassos, and at the same time one of the most popular in Greece.

What you will experience at Marble Beach is a completely white beach, covered with small white pebbles and a blue-turquoise water, perfectly placed between two high mountains where only the specific Mediterranean pines stand.

How do you get to Marble Beach?

Marble Beach is located on the eastern side of the island of Thassos, very close to the main town of the island - Thassos (Limenas). Marble Beach can be reached in about 8 km by car from Limenas (where the ferry boat from Keramoti docks). πŸ–οΈ

However, the road takes about 20 minutes because after passing the entrance to the Makryammos resort, follow the road on the right which is completely unpaved. This unpaved road is full of marble dust and used mainly by trucks exploiting the marble in the area - so it is a little more difficult.

As a landmark that you are on the right track are the mountain and the marble quarry that you will always have in front of you. Also, before reaching the beach, there is an olive grove on the right side of the road (on the left you will always see the blue waters of the Aegean Sea).

As a conclusion: the road is unpaved and dusty.

This is a photo taken passing by to a huge mound of marble.

πŸ–οΈ The beach is artificially landscaped and the marble pebbles were sprinkled abundantly both on the beach and at the entrance to the water. This gives a special look to the beach, which is a brilliant white (you can't take your sunglasses off), and the sea water reflects even more the blue color of the sky.

πŸ–οΈ Even if the marbled gravel is seemingly harmless, there are also marble pebbles that can injure the feet, so slippers are recommended. The entrance to the water is not very smooth, the water deepens quite quickly, so do not leave children unattended. There are also some bigger stones in the water, so be very careful where you go. It's beautiful, but avoid being adventurous.

You can rent two sun loungers with an umbrella for 12 euros. Even if you drink at the bar, you can't use the sunbeds that are piled up all over the beach - it's hard to find a place for a towel.

You won't find too many food options in here. At the beach bar a small 33 cl draft beer costs 5 euros, a simple sandwich also 5 euros, a bag of chips 3.5 euros.

As a final conclusion, I would say this:

  1. The beach is like a dream looking.

  2. You have to come early if you want to find a good place. The beach is pretty small so in the afternoon its already full.

  3. Food is limited.

  4. It is a bit of "not so pleasing" driving until you get here.

This beach is not my favourite on Thassos because it's really crowded and the entrance in the sea is abrupt! But it's worth visiting at least once! The water is amazing and the landscape it's totally mind blowing. πŸ–οΈ

I'm sorry I couldn't take more photos. We stayed only for an hour because a storm was about to come!

I'm not that person thinking she'll be visiting again the same place beacause.......you know why...!!

There are millions of beautiful places in this huge world to visit so why go the same place when you could go discover another one or even more beautiful? But you know what?

Thassos is that place that got me thinking to come again and I definetely will! My heart screams for it so badly! Can't wait to be here again!

Love, missdeli

Haha even in hive I read more about Thassos from Romanians!
@bluemoon seems to be very fond of it!
I have been to many Greek islands but somehow I missed that one. Maybe I should pay it a visit :)

haha:D I understand now why @bluemoon and others love this island! It's really a cool place to be, both for relax and travel. And why not, fun too!

Indeed, Greece and the Greek islands have much to offer, they have their own beauty.
The post and photos are stunning.

Greece is far beyond words, at least for me :) It's that place I always come back and never getting tired of it!
Thank you for the appreciation and commenting!

Looks like a beautiful beach for sure! I think the artificial nature of it is initially a little hard to understand but I can definitely appreciate they added the marble stuff. Makes it look even cooler!

The water there is beautiful, hoping one day to be able to visit such a wonderful place!

yeah, I hear you! Feeling same way here!:D

The water...yes.....it's simply wonderful! Where are you from, if not mind asking you? don't need to answer, only if you feel confortable with it.
Greece has amazing places to offer and being 10-15 hours away from Romania (depending of the destination), we go every year. It is my calming place to be. :D:x

Cheers from Romania.
