Flogging tourism: Only in Aceh

Hiveans friends, if you visit Indonesia, then come to Aceh to enjoy this attraction.

In fact these were people who broke the law—they were publicly flogged in front of the mosque—their punishment for being a tourist attraction. I think this kind of punishment is not religious but cultural. If we violate the law, we will be punished in public in Aceh. There are two laws that apply in Aceh, the first is the law of the Indonesian and the second is the law of the Qanun Islamic Sharia. Unfortunately, the caning punishment is not effective at all, only a tourist attraction. When this punishment process will be held, people will gather to watch it, such as football fans or watching a music band concert performance. They were very enthusiastic, brought smart phones to capture this moment, then posted them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. Those who were flogged were people who violated the law, for example gambling, committing immorality, dating, stealing and so on. However, this caning only targets ordinary people who do not understand the law. As an Indonesian citizen, I am only subject to state law and Pancasila, not to the Qanun.

Islamic law is only understood as a punishment for whipping, cutting off one's hand for stealing and so on. The Islamic Sharia should be understood as an improvement in the standard of living and the economy, if stealing is not the hand that is cut off but rather breaks the chain of crime, which makes the person steal, so it is not the hand that is cut off. If everyone's economy is good, then the theft and crime rate will be very small, then the Islamic Sharia should be understood as an improvement in the standard of living and the economy.

The identities of the executioners who carried out the caning will be kept secret so that the person who was whipped would not recognize them. The number of lashes received by a lawbreaker depends on the crime or offense he committed, some get 50, 100, 80, 200, or 300.

I guess this is a very sensitive topic to discuss. I respect the practice as long as it helps reduce crime rates in the country. After all, it is a cultural practice and if everyone commits to it then it might be good for the state. I never knew about this until now. Thanks for sharing.

You are welcome...amigo...indeed this really sensitive Topic to talk about...
