The other day, for the first time in a long time, my friend and I had holiday plans got matched and decided to have lunch in the city. It was September 19, a few days after the passing of Queen Elizabeth. I had some time before meeting my friend, so I went for a walk in Stockholm's Old Town (Gamla Stan). Gamla Stan is also home to Stockholm Palace, and I walked towards the palace for the first time in a while.

When I arrived at Stockholm Palace, the first thing I noticed was that the palace was flying the flag at half-staff.　　I was reminded of the influence of the Queen as the whole world expressed their condolences to her.　Also, Carl XVI Gustaf, the King of Sweden, seems to be a distant relative of Queen Elizabeth, and was present near the coffin as a close relative at her funeral, which was later reported.　I felt that in many ways, Europe is a region where the idea of one big nation fits in just right. (Well, the UK has left Europe...well, well, well.)

After a short visit to Stockholm Palace, I saw the Swedish Parliament building and then strolled through the old town.　**Stockholm's Old Town (Gamla Stan) **was crowded with many tourists.　I felt that the daily life before the Corona disaster was returning to Stockholm, albeit little by little.

先日、久しぶりに友達と休日の予定が合って、市内で食事をすることになりました。その日は９月１９日で、エリザベス女王が逝去され数日が経った日でした。友人に会うまでに少し時間があったので、ストックホルム旧市街（ガムラスタン）に散歩しに行ってみました。ガムラスタンにはストックホルム宮殿もあり、久しぶりに宮殿に向かって歩いてみました。

ストックホルム宮殿へつくと初めに気づいたのが宮殿に半旗を掲揚していました。　世界中が女王への追悼を表明し改めて影響力の大きさを感じました。　また、スウェーデンの国王であるCarl XVI Gustafはエリザベス女王とは遠い親戚でもあるようで後に報道された女王の葬儀でも近親者として棺の近くで参列していました。　そう考えると、欧州の王族っていろんなつながりがあるのだなぁと、いろんな意味で欧州とは１つの大きな国家的な考えがちょうど合う地域なのだなぁと感じました。（まぁ、イギリスは欧州を離脱しましたが。）

ストックホルム宮殿を少し見学した後、スウェーデンの国会議事堂を見て、そして旧市街を散策しました。　ストックホルム旧市街（ガムラスタン）は多くの観光客で賑わっていました。　少しづつ活気も戻ってきて、ストックホルムにもコロナ禍の日常が少しづつですが戻ってきていると感じました。
