Hay lugares que valen la pena visitar. Eso lo digo por el motivo cuando viajé a Mérida y tuve la oportunidad de visitar la Capilla de Piedra de Juan Félix Sánchez. Un icono de la arquitectura venezolana.
That day, the tour was a bit long, and I remember that to get to this place, we had to drive for two hours from the place where we were staying.
When we arrived, we all disembarked from the bus and went to walk around the whole place. The church is really a masterpiece, as it was built only with stones. It is very well-preserved by the local people and maintained as a tourist site. What impressed me most about the church is how they were able to build it with only stones between 1980 and 1984.
The small church is located in the village of San Rafael de Mucuchíes, the highest village in Venezuela. A place worth visiting once in a lifetime.
Ése día el tour era algo largo, recuerdo que para llegar hasta este lugar tuvimos que recorrer en carro dos horas desde el lugar donde nos hospedamos.
Al llegar, todos desembarcamos del autobús y nos dirigimos a recorrer todo el lugar. La iglesia es realmente una obra maestra, ya que está construida solo con piedras. La gente de la localidad la conserva muy bien y la mantiene como un sitio de turismo. Lo que más me impresionó de la iglesia es cómo pudieron construirla con sólo piedras entre 1980 y 1984.
La pequeña iglesia se encuentra ubicada en el pueblo de San Rafael de Mucuchíes, el pueblo con mayor altura de toda Venezuela. Un lugar que vale la pena conocer una vez en la vida.
My friends and I, the only thing we did was walk around the place. The imposing entrance is beautiful, and there we decided to take some pictures. It is best to do it outside, as it is very dark inside and it is hard to breathe.
Mis amigos y yo, lo único que hicimos fue recorrer el lugar. Lo imponente entrada es hermosa, allí decidimos tomarnos varias fotografías. Lo mejor es hacerlo afuera; ya que adentro es muy oscuro y cuesta un poco respirar.
The church and its surroundings are built only with stones, and the lamps or lanterns are from the 19th century. It makes you feel like you are not here at this time. Also, from this place, there is an amazing view of the mountains that are used for cultivation.
It is a perfect place to visit with friends or your partner. I remember on this trip I went with one of my ex-girlfriends (I won't tell much about it). We had a great time.
La iglesia y sus alrededores están construidos sólo con piedras, las lámparas o farolas son del siglo XIX, te hace sentir que no estás en esta época. Además, desde ése lugar hay una vista sorprendente de montañas que usan para cultivos.
Es un sitio perfecto a visitar con amigos o tu pareja. Recuerdo que en éste viaje fui con una de mis exnovias (no contaré mucho del asunto). La pasamos muy bien.
Inside the chapel, there are several objects, but at that time, it was difficult to photograph them because it was very dark inside. Besides the fact that there were a lot of people inside, it was very difficult to breathe (I don't like small places).
Dentro de la capilla hay varios objetos, pero en ese momento era difícil fotografiarlos porque en el interior es muy oscura. Además de que éramos muchas personas dentro de ella, respirar era muy difícil (en mi caso no me gustan los lugares pequeños).
The person who enjoyed it the most was my friend Anyeli, she even went to bed inside the chapel. You can do that to enjoy the experience.
La persona que más disfrutó fue mi amiga Anyeli, hasta se acostó adentro de la capilla. Eso lo puedes hacer para disfrutar la experiencia.
One thing that really surprised me was that several of my friends climbed to the top of the chapel. Climbing up there must have been difficult. I thought they would say something to her at that point, but apparently there was no problem.
Algo que me sorprendió mucho es que varias de mis amigas subieron a la parte superior de la capilla. Escalar ese lugar debió ser algo difícil. Pensé que le dirían algo en ése momento, pero al parecer no había ningún inconveniente.
The most important thing about having the opportunity to visit a place is that you are filled with the experience and the way people behave. The small town of San Rafael de Mucuchíes was very clean, the people very attentive, and above all, very cultural.
Near the chapel is the Benigno and Vicenta Sanchez Museum of the Andes. Coincidentally, this museum is the house of the parents of Juan Félix Sánchez, who was the sculptor of the Chapel of Stone. The house displays a collection of the family's artwork and furniture.
Lo más importante de tener la oportunidad de visitar un lugar es que te llenas de la experiencia y la manera en que se comportan las personas. El pequeño pueblo de San Rafael de Mucuchíes era muy limpio, la gente muy atenta y sobre todo muy cultural.
Cerca de la capilla está el Museo de los Andes Benigno y Vicenta Sánchez. Casualmente, éste museo es la casa de los padres de Juan Félix Sánchez, quien fue el escultor de la capilla de Piedra. La casa muestra un conjunto de obras de arte y muebles de la familia.
According to what we were told, this house was donated to become a museum, but managed to open its doors after Juan Félix Sánchez passed away. The museum is actually a colonial house, full of paintings and family memorabilia. There are several interesting sections inside the house that you can see.
