We walked all the way to Arab Street from Our China town accommodation we could have easily taken the mass transit train but it is under ground and we enjoyed looking and exploring. We broke the four kilometre trip up with a coffee half way. Arab Street was named because Muslims from all over south east Asia used to stay there looking for cheap accommodation waiting for a ship and passage on there pilgrimage to Mecca.
This area seems to have a lot of names. Kampong Glam stands for compound of paperbark trees. We did not see at lot of paperbark trees or trees in general but I am sure they would have been all over the place in the early days.
There were plenty of cool murals all over the place especially the alleys ways
You could see the Mosque from just about everywhere in the area.
Everything was so clean and tidy.
Some of the murals were so good, I actually though this was a real shop.
All the streets and shops were so colourful.
I just love the old and new contrast
There seemed to be a number of school groups walking around, they were very disciplined, maybe we should have tagged along and learned something.
It was like there were no building that were not well painted and decorated.
I really liked the Sultan Gate and historical picture boards.
The Golden Sultan Mosque really stood out amongst all the colourful shops and building.
Another interesting and enjoyable place in Singapore visiting and checked out.
