In July, we were walking in Kosciuszko Park in a cozy, beautiful area of the city of Katowice in Poland. Unexpectedly for myself, I saw a wooden church. It looked very old. The courtyard was deserted and there were no people around...

I love to sit in a place like this. So I went into the courtyard with my daughters and looked with interest at this unique structure, which was surprisingly well preserved.
Today this church is an active Catholic church.

I googled it and found out that it was the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, which was first built in 1305 in Sirinia, near Wodzisław Śląski. It is always exciting to be able to see the creativity of people from past centuries. This is a truly ancient find. It turns out that in those harsh times the church building had a defensive purpose. The villagers used the building as a place where they could hide from attacking enemies. There is a tall bell tower standing separately, where a watchman was stationed, who could see danger from afar. The church in its current shape and size was built in 1510. In the 17th century, a new, free-standing tower was built. It is truly fascinating to touch living history! It is as if age-old wisdom is present here!

It was a warm July day. My girls were dressed in beautiful silk dresses. It looks great: a young modern beauty stands in contemplation of eternal values against the backdrop of an ancient wooden church.

With a feeling of incredible spiritual trepidation, I entered the silence of the church and stopped for a few minutes to take a photo of this mysterious space, where people leave their sad confessions and gain spiritual strength!
Inside, the church houses precious works: a 16th-century Gothic sculpture of the Virgin and Child and a Baroque pulpit testify to the artistic wealth of that period.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel is built entirely of dark wood, and has a mysterious appearance that evokes an atmosphere of mystical spirituality.
Over time, this church has gone through many trials. It has survived wars, migrations and periods of neglect. But unique elements such as the log frame construction and the shingled roof have been preserved. Today, it remains a magnificent example of Silesian woodcraft and a place of meditation that attracts both believers and history buffs.

For more than two and a half years now, we have been traveling the world on our #TheLongestTrip. Sometimes life requires our full presence in other areas of life, and I can’t immerse myself in writing articles about my exciting journey every day. But there are many places where I have been and seen unique structures that are worthy of your attention. So I continue my column #ArchitecturalPearlsofWorld

It was a pleasure for me to share my find with you, I hope that lovers of antiquity and history enjoyed it!
Thank you for your visit 😊

Hey, actually you are mixing photos here from two visited places (and churches), one is the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Kościuszko Park in Katowice, but the other is St. Lawrence Church in Chorzów (see the sign, St. Lawrence = Świętego Wawrzyńca. It's from 1599, whereas St. Michael is from 1510. :-)

I also drew my attention to this sign! I still can't understand why this sign is there, but all the photos were taken in the same place :)
