Our stay in Portugal was divided into three stages. The first is to arrive and visit Porto. The second stage is a bus ride to Lisbon, a city tour and a flight back home from Lisbon. The third stage involved renting a car in Lisbon and visiting the south coast. It is known that everywhere in the world it is easiest and cheapest to rent a car at the airports, so by connecting all the dots together, it turned out that it would be best if we go from Porto to Lisbon by bus stopping at the Lisbon Orientea bus station, then we will go about 2 kilometers to the airport. How great was my surprise when it turned out that the Lisbon Orientea bus station to which we just arrived, located far from the city center, is a place that I know very well and which we planned to visit anyway.

Nasz pobyt w Portugali opierał się na trzech etapach. Pierwszy to przylot i zwiedzenie Porto. Drugi etap to przejazd autobusem do Lizbony zwiedzenie miasta i lot powrotny z Lizbony do domu. Trzeci etap zakładał wynajęcie auta w Lizbonie i zwiedzenie południowego wybrzeża. Wiadomo, że wszędzie na świecie auto najłatwiej i najtaniej wynająć na lotniskach, więc łącząc wszystkie kropki w jedną całość wyszło, że najlepiej będzie jeśli z Porto do Lizbony pojedziemy autobusem zatrzymującym się na stacji autobusowej Lizbona Orientea potem przejdziemy około 2 kilometry do portu lotniczego. Jakież wielkie było moje zdziwienie gdy okazało się, że dworzec autobusowy Lizbona Orientea na który właśnie przyjechaliśmy, położony daleko od centrum miasta, to jest miejsce które bardzo dobrze znam i które i tak planowaliśmy odwiedzić.

Lisboa Oriente, or East Lisbon, is a communication center combining a train station, bus station, metro stations and city bus loops. There would be nothing extraordinary about it, if not for the fact that the building was designed by the famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. This is Santiago Calatrava's 5th object that I had the opportunity to see with my own eyes. After the bridge in Seville, the footbridge in Buenos Aires, the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro and the Olympic torch in Barcelona, I must admit that the Lisbon Station is the most impressive of all these. The station, consisting of 4 platforms covered with a glass roof, clearly inspired by Gothic architecture, gives the impression of a very spacious building. Unfortunately, a lot of time has passed since the station was put into use in 1998, which is clearly visible in the condition of the facility. The steel structure of the platform roofing covered with white paint is largely rusty and full of rusty stains. Numerous leaks can be seen on the concrete elements of the underpass under the platforms. In general, the condition of the station gives the impression that it requires urgent renovation and it is sad that such an architecturally important building was destroyed so quickly. My macro-scale impressions of the visit to the Lisbon Orientea train station are very positive, while the micro-scale impressions are mixed.

Lisboa Oriente czyli Lizbona Wschodnia to centrum komunikacyjne łączące w sobie dworzec kolejowy, dworzec autobusowy, stacje metra i pętle autobusów miejskich. Nie byłoby w nim nic nadzwyczajnego, gdyby nie fakt zaprojektowania tej budowli przez słynnego hiszpańskiego architekta Santiago Calatravę. To już 5 obiekt Santiago Calatravy, który miałem okazję zobaczyć na własne oczy. Po moście w Sewilli, kładce pieszej w Buenos Aires, Muzeum Jutra w Rio de Janeiro i zniczu olimpijskim w Barcelonie muszę przyznać, że Dworzec w Lizbonie jest najbardziej okazałym z tych wszystkich obiektów. Dworzec składający się z 4 peronów przykrytych szklanym dachem wyraźnie inspirowanym architektura gotycką sprawia wrażenie bardzo przestronnej budowli. Niestety od czasu oddania do użytkowania dworca w 1998 roku minęło już sporo czasu co wyraźnie widać po stanie obiektu. Pokryta białą farba konstrukcja stalowa zadaszenia peronów w znacznym stopniu jest zardzewiała, oraz pełna rdzawych zacieków. Na betonowych elementach konstrukcji przejścia podziemnego pod peronami widać liczne przecieki. Ogólnie stan dworca sprawia wrażenia wymagającego pilnej renowacji i smutne jest to, że tak ważny architektonicznie obiekt tak szybko uległ zniszczeniu. Moje wrażenia z wizyty na dworcu Lizbona Orientea w skali makro są bardzo pozytywne, natomiast wrażenie w skali mikro są mieszane.

So nice to see a Portugal post. Hope you will have an amazing time here. Madeira is most beautiful by the way or the island of the acores. Alentejo or Algave are super nice too.
