Visiting Krakow's churches is in full swing. After the first church I visited since the invocation of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, I decided not to change the district, not even to change the street, but walk a bit further towards Rynek Podgórski and from the address ul. Zamoyskiego 56, stop at ul. Zamoyskiego 2 next to the church of St. Joseph. An interesting fact is that this church was designed by the same architect Jan Sas-Zubrzycki. I am particularly connected with this temple, because it has been my parish for over 4 years.
I have to admit that the building is very impressive and I have seen many tourists visiting Podgórze just to snap a photo of this church, although probably many of them would be surprised if they found out the real age of the church, which is not even 120 years old. This is how it is with buildings in the neo-gothic style, which, although impressive, although full of gothic references, were built only at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The three-nave temple consecrated in 1909 was not the first temple standing in this place. Earlier, in 1832, a church in the classicist style was built here, but due to its poor technical condition, it was necessary to close it and dismantle it at the end of the 19th century. The dome of the church tower is clearly modeled on the dome of the higher of the two towers of St. Mary's Church. Throughout the church there are as many as 60 altars of paintings and sculptures depicting images of various saints. Currently, the interior of the church looks very fresh. I mean newly renovated. Which, with greater or lesser intensity, has been going on continuously since 1978. Over the years, the facade, side elevations, roof, interior floor, benches and interior walls have been renovated. In a word, the temple, despite the fact that it is almost 120 years old, looks as if it had been used for only a few years. In the last few years, behind the church on a rocky escarpment, the area was tidied up and a winding path was arranged on it, surrounded by rockery gardens with numerous sculptures forming a symbolic Golgotha. Because there are also a few benches and tables, this place has become for me and Agata one of the favorite places to spend free time outdoors. It is enough to brew tea in a thermos, buy some buns in a nearby bakery and you can enjoy a wonderful picnic in one of the most picturesque and at the same time completely unknown to most people corners of Krakow.

Odwiedzanie krakowskich kościołów trwa w najlepsze. Po pierwszym odwiedzonym kościele od wezwaniem Matki Bożej Nieustającej Pomocy postanowiłem nie zmieniać dzielnicy, nawet nie zmieniać ulicy, tylko przejść kawałek dalej w kierunku Rynku Podgórskiego i z pod adresu ul. Zamoyskiego 56 zatrzymać się pod adresem ul. Zamoyskiego 2 przy podgórskim kościele św. Józefa. Ciekawostką jest to, że ten kościół został zaprojektowany przez tego samego architekta Jana Sas-Zubrzyckiego. Z tą świątynią jestem szczególnie związany, bo od ponad 4 lat jest to moja parafia.
Trzeba przyznać, że budowla jest bardzo okazała i wielokrotnie widziałem już turystów odwiedzających podgórze tylko po to, żeby pstryknąć fotkę temu kościołowi, choć pewnie wielu z nich zdziwiłoby się gdyby poznali prawdziwy wiek kościoła nie wynoszący nawet 120 lat. Tak to już jest z budowlami w stylu neogotyckim, które choć okazałe, choć pełne nawiązań do gotyku to powstały one zaledwie na przełomie wieku XIX i XX. Trójnawowa świątynia konsekrowana w roku 1909 roku nie była pierwszą świątynią stojącą w tym miejscu. Wcześniej w roku 1832 powstał tutaj kościół w stylu klasycystycznym, ale z uwagi na zły stan techniczny pod koniec XIX wieku było konieczne zamknięcie i rozebranie go. Hełm wieża kościoła jawnie nawiązuje wzorowany na hełmie wyższej z dwóch wieży kościoła Mariackiego. W całym kościele znajduje się aż 60 ołtarzy obrazów i rzeźb przedstawiających wizerunki różnych świętych. Obecnie wnętrze kościoła wygląda bardzo świeżo. Mam na myśli świeżo po remoncie. Który z większą lub mniejszą intensywnością nieprzerwanie trwa od 1978 roku. Przez te lata wyremontowano fasadę, elewacje boczne, dach, posadzka we wnętrzu, ławki, ściany wnętrza. Jednym słowem świątynia pomimo tego, że ma już niemal 120 lat wygląda tak jakby była użytkowana zaledwie od kilku lat. W ostatnich kilku latach za kościołem na skalistej skarpie uporządkowano teren i zaaranżowano na niej krętą ścieżkę otoczona skalniakowymi ogrodami w których stoją z liczne rzeźby tworzące symboliczną Golgotę. Ponieważ jest tam również kilka ławeczek i stolików to miejsce stało się dla mnie i Agatki jednym z ulubionych miejsc spędzania wolnego czasu na świeżym powietrzu. Wystarczy zaparzyć sobie herbatę do termosu, kupić w pobliskiej piekarni jakieś drożdżówki i już można cieszyć się wspaniałym piknikiem w jednym z najbardziej malowniczych i zarazem kompletnie nieznanym dla większości ludzi zakątków Krakowa.

A very interesting element of the temple's equipment is the pulpit, which depicts the seven deadly sins in the form of animals representing them: a turtle - laziness, a dog and a cat - anger, a fish devouring the smaller one - gluttony, a dragon - greed, two monkeys - impurity, a snake holding an apple in its mouth - envy, a peacock - pride. These sculptures are located on the side of the winding steps leading to the pulpit and it is really worth seeing this detail when visiting the church.
My favorite curiosity related to the church of St. Joseph in Podgórze is the fact that during its construction and forging the limestone rocks behind the building, a mysterious grotto was found. Numerous traces have been found in the grotto, proving that it was probably here that the historical and legendary alchemist of King Sigismund Augustus, Master Twardowski, had his workshop years ago.
Another interesting thing about the parish of St. Józef in Podgórze is that it was in this parish that Father Jacek Stryczek first organized the Noble Box campaign, which after many years spread not only throughout Krakow, but also throughout Poland. Currently, after numerous turbulences, the campaign Noble Box is not so much media, and priest Jacek Stryczek is no longer associated with it.

It is worth noting that the hourly schedule of services coincides dot-to-dot with the schedule of the neighboring parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. So as you can see, competition works in every area of our daily lives.

Bardzo interesującym elementem wyposażenia świątyni jest ambona, na której przedstawiono wyobrażenia siedmiu grzechów głównych pod postaciami zwierząt reprezentującymi je i są to: żółw – lenistwo, pies i kot – gniew, ryba pożerająca mniejszą – łakomstwo, smok – chciwość, dwie małpy – nieczystość, wąż trzymający w paszczy jabłko – zazdrość, paw – pycha. Te rzeźby umiejscowione są na boku krętych schodków prowadzących do ambony i podczas zwiedzania kościoła naprawdę warto zobaczyć ten detal.
Moja ulubioną ciekawostką związana z kościołem św. Józefa na Podgórzu jest fakt, że podczas jego budowy i kuciu wapiennych skał znajdujących się za budowlą natrafiono na tajemniczą grotę. W grocie znaleziono liczne ślady świadczące o tym, że to prawdopodobnie tutaj przed laty swoją pracownie miał historyczno-legendarny alchemik króla Zygmunta Augusta, mistrz Twardowski.
Inną ciekawą rzeczą wiążąca się z parafia św. Józefa na Podgórzu jest to, że właśnie w tej parafii ksiądz Jacek Stryczek po raz pierwszy zorganizował akcje Szlachetna Paczka, która po latach rozprzestrzeniła się nie tylko na cały Kraków, ale także całą Polskę. Obecnie po licznych zawirowaniach, akcja Szlachetna Paczka nie jest już tak bardzo medialna, a ksiądz Jacek Stryczek nie jest już z nią związany.

Warto zauważyć, że godzinowy rozkład nabożeństw kropka w kropkę pokrywa się z rozkładem sąsiedniej parafii pod od wezwaniem Matki Bożej Nieustającej Pomocy. Tak więc jak widać, konkurencja działa na każdym obszarze naszego codziennego życia.
Piękny jest ten kościół 👌🏻. Byłem w nim na ślubie moich znajomych.
