Travel: Watching the GSW in Chase Center Arena

Hello there, I'm @outwars. I recently visited San Francisco with my sister and her husband to watch the Golden State Warriors game, and I would like to share my experience. In my last three posts I wrote about how we went to SF via the Alameda Ferry, we explored the SF Ferry Building, and walked towards the BART station. We then had a late lunch in Cellarmaker House of Pizza. This post is about our main event, watching the GoldenState Warriors live in Chase Center Arena.

From Cellarmaker, we just took an Uber to the Chase Center. We were a bit early for the game, but since this is my first time there, we wanted to have a look around the arena before the game.

When our Uber got closer to the arena, traffic was already starting to build up. We got out a bit furthere out and just decided to walk a little. The moment we stepped outside, I felt a really cold breeze coming from the water behind us. It was really cold, and I think it was below 10 degrees Celsius.

When we reached the arena, there were a lot of lines already starting to form. It seems we got there in perfect time, and the doors are about to open. As expected, the security is tight. There were bag and body metal detectors in every entrance.

While waiting for our turn to enter, I took some photos of the big spherical art outside the arena. There were also stairs going up, that might lead to some stores and restaurants around the arena.

Once we got in, we headed straight to our seats first to check how close we are to the court. Once we got there, I was speechless. I did not expect us to be so close. We were in the second row behind the glass barrier. I thanked my brother-in-law so much since he was the one who bought the tickets. What's funny was that he was also surprised by how close we are.

We were seated on the away side, so we went to other side of the court to where the GSW players were practicing. I took a photo of Wiggins and Curry, but I have never been more frustrated with my old phone's camera until now. We were close, but my photos are so blurry.

The arena was big, and people were also starting to trickle in. Since there was still around an hour before the start of the game, we decided to look around inside the arena.

There were a lot of food stores just above the arena. There were hotdogs, and sandwiches, and a lot of other finger foods. While they look appetizing, they also cost a lot more than normal. It is a good thing that we just had a heavy meal before going here.

There were also a bunch of food choices outside the immediate premises of the arena, and there were also a lot of Merchandise stores. A lot of people were also doing what we were doing and walking around and taking pictures.

I know that the Chase Center is pretty new, and that the GSW moved here from Oracle Arena. But I have to say I like the look and design of Chase Center. It looks very modern, and the color combination is very sleek and futuristic.

There were a lot of cool art placed around the arena. After walking for a while and exploring the merch store, we decided to head back for the start of the game. The game was pretty close and exciting, then it was time for the half time show.

There was the usual Cheerdancers, there was also a puppy race to promote adopting dogs from the shelter, and a few other events. We went out for some snacks and more beer.

It was then time for the second half. The game was really close and you can feel the tension in the air. By the fourth quarter, people were already starting to stand up in their seats.

It felt like a playoff game with how the crowd was so into it. Everyone was cheering hard when GSW scored, and chanting DEFENSE against the opponent. There were some controversial calls, and the crowd really let the refs know what they think.

The game was a nail biter, but in the end, the GSW came out with the win. There were still some interviews and giveaways, but we decided to make an early exit to avoid the full rush of the crowd.

But before we left, we went to the Merch store and bought a souvenir. There were a lot of people as expected, but there were a lot of cashiers so it was fairly fast. We had to walk a bit farther from the arena to quickly find an Uber, since there is a lot of competition in the arena, and it also costs so much higher there.

We passed by a very beautiful building on our way out. I don't know what it was, but it was very futuristic, and there were also a lot of people admiring it. It actually has a very nice view of the big screen that shows the game, so I guess people outside can stay here to watch the game.

Even on our way home, we can't stop talking about the awesome experience we had. Our adrenaline was still running high, and there was no way we can sleep that quickly. My brother in law opened a few cans of beer and we all watched the different reports and reactions about the game.

Before going to bed, I took a look again at the simple shirt that was my souvenir. Every time I see it and wear it I'll remember this day. From the Ferry and the Ferry Building, to the scenery around the BART station, to the Cellarmaker pizza, and finally to my first live NBA game that did not disappoint. This was definitely one of the best days of my life.

Hi livinguktaiwan, I am from the Philippines. I traveled to the US, and it is my first time going to the Chase Center arena, and also watching an NBA game live. The places I posted are the tourist attractions my sister who lives in Alameda thinks I would appreciate being a first timer in the bay area. I even specifically focused on the art, buildings, and surroundings of the Chase Center arena instead of the NBA game, to make it even more travel related.

For the locals, this might just be a great evening with family. But for me this is a big deal of traveling and going to an NBA arena, seeing the crowd, the architecture, and the ambience. This might be my first and only chance of going to a NBA game/arena.
