Hello Haveyoubeenhere family. Today I would like to tell you about a little-known historical building. The name of this historical building is Arpaz Castle. According to some researchers, it is a mansion, and according to others, it is a tower. But no matter what, this magnificent structure is worth seeing and telling.
Merhaba Haveyoubeenhere ailesi. Bugün sizlere oldukça az bilinen tarihi bir yapıyı anlatmak istiyorum. Bu tarihi yapının adı Arpaz Kalesi. Kimi araştırmacılara göre konak, kimilerine göre de kule. Fakat her ne olursa olsun, bu muhteşem yapı görmeye ve anlatmaya değer.
The Arpaz Castle is a 400-year-old ancient monument located in Esenköy, in the Nazilli district of Aydın city. The village where the castle is located actually looks like a classical Aegean village. It is an area built from common village houses where livestock and agriculture are done. The Arpaz Castle and the underlying history make the village different from the others. The castle has become the symbol of the village. This building, dating from the Ottoman Empire period, is still standing upright today, but is in a very neglected condition. I guess the reason for this neglect is that it has not received as much attention as other historical sites in the South Aegean. It is possible that the villagers may not have understood its value well enough.
Arpaz kalesi Aydın şehrinin Nazilli ilçesine bağlı Esenköy'de bulunan 400 yıllık çok eski bir eser. Kalenin yer aldığı köy aslında klasik bir Ege köyü görünümünde. Hayvancılık ve tarımın yapıldığı genel geçer köy evlerinden kurulu bir alan. Arpaz Kalesi ve altında yatan tarih, köyü diğerlerinden farklı kılıyor. Kale adeta köyün simgesi haline gelmiş durumda. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu döneminden kalma bu yapı günümüzde hala dimdik ayakta fakat oldukça bakımsız durumda. Güney Ege'deki diğer tarihi alanlar kadar ilgi görmemiş olması bu bakımsızlığın sebebidir diye tahmin ediyorum. Muhtemelen köylüler de onun değerini yeterince anlayamamış olabilir.
Aegean Region is an earthquake zone where many fault lines pass. Small and medium earthquakes occur frequently. In fact, sometimes there were large earthquakes and they caused great damage. Arpaz Castle, on the other hand, has survived for 400 years in such an earthquake zone and has survived until today. This shows the robustness of the structure. When you examine the castle from the outside, you can observe that there is a very serious stone work. And stone buildings are quite sturdy when they are made with good workmanship.
Ege Bölgesi birçok fay hattının geçtiği bir deprem bölgesidir. Sık aralıklarla da küçük ve orta büyüklükte depremler olur. Hatta kimi zaman da büyük depremler olup büyük zararlara sebep de olmuştur. Arpaz Kalesi ise böylesi bir deprem bölgesinde 400 yıl ayakta kalarak bugüne kadar gelmiş. Bu da yapının sağlamlığını gösteriyor. Zaten kaleyi dışarıdan incelediğinizde çok ciddi bir taş işçiliği olduğunu gözlemleyebilirsiniz. Ve taş binalar iyi bir işçilikle yapıldıklarında oldukça sağlam olurlar.
There is very little information about the history of the Arpaz Castle. It was built by Hacı Hasan Bey, one of the Arpaz lords, to be used as a mansion 400 years ago, but we cannot pass without saying that it functions as a defense due to the length of the castle. When Hacı Hasan Bey returned after being exiled to Rhodes during the Ottoman period, he brought Rhodesian stonemasons with him. The tower and mansion were also built by these masters. The wooden motifs, ceiling decorations, door and cabinet details inside the castle are also masterworks.
Arpaz Kalesinin tarihi hakkında ise çok az bilgiler var. Arpaz beylerinden Hacı Hasan Bey tarafından 400 yıl önce konak amacıyla kullanılmak üzere yaptırılmış fakat kalenin uzunluğu dolayısıyla savunma işlevi gördüğünü de söylemeden geçemeyiz. Hacı Hasan Bey Osmanlı döneminde Rodos'a sürüldükten sonra geri döndüğünde yanında Rodoslu taş ustalarını getirmiş. Kule ve konak da bu ustalar tarafından inşa edilmiş. Kalenin içindeki ahşap motifleri, tavan işlemeleri, kapak ve dolap ayrıntıları da ustalık işi şeyler.
In the annex building adjacent to the castle, there are sections such as a bath, guest house, cellar, barn and mill.
Kalenin bitişiğindeki ek yapıda da hamam, misafirhane, kiler, ahır ve değirmen gibi bölümler de yer alıyor.
Researchers think that Arpaz Castle should be included in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage list immediately. Some attempts have been made for the restoration of the castle, but have not yet yielded results. For now, it is abandoned and derelict. I hope that the restoration will be started as soon as possible and it will be completed without any damage to the structure.
Araştırmacılar Arpaz Kalesi'nin acilen UNESCO Kültürel Miras listesine alınması gerektiğini düşünüyorlar. Kalenin restorasyonu için de kimi girişimlerde bulunulmuş fakat henüz sonuç vermemiş. Şu an için kaderine terk edilmiş ve metruk bir halde. Diliyorum en yakın zamanda restorasyonu başlatılır ve yapıya herhangi bir zarar gelmeden tamamlanır.
As I mentioned at the beginning, I tried to tell you the little-known Arpaz Castle as best I could. Two or three years ago, while I was researching on the Internet, I discovered it by chance and went right away. If you happen to be in Turkey and the Southern Aegean, you should definitely go and see it. You will be enchanted.

Kültür ve Turizm bakanlığı restorasyon işlemlerine de keşke daha fazla odaklanabilse, eminim turistik değerleri ve bilinirliği daha da fazla olacaktır bu tarz yerlerin.
