On our winter vacation trip to Península Valdés we visited one of the places that we had long wanted to visit and that due to weather conditions or not having enough time we had always wanted to visit. It is the Isla de los Pájaros (Birds Island), located inside the Península Valdes Natural Reserve.
The Isla de los Pajaros is so named because of the great variety of bird species that live there in a relatively small portion of land. Among the species we can find we can mention the Magellanic Penguin; Black Oystercatcher, Bigua, Black-necked Cormorant, Black-necked Gull, Steamer Duck, Crested Duck, White Heron, Witch Heron and Oystercatcher.
The so-called Bird Island has the particularity that it is not a full time island, but only at high tide, since at low tide, this small portion of land is joined to the continent.
En el viaje que hicimos en las vacaciones de Invierno a Península Valdés visitamos uno de los lugares que hace tiempo teníamos ganas de conocer y que por situaciones climáticas o bien por no contar con el tiempo suficiente siempre nos quedaba pendiente de visitar. Se trata de la Isla de los Pájaros, situada dentro de la Reserva Natural de Península Valdes.
La Isla de los pájaros recibe ese nombre por la gran variedad especies de aves que allí residen en una porción relativamente pequeña de tierra. Entre las especies que podemos encontrar podemos mencionar al Pingüino de Magallanes; Ostrero Negro, Bigua, Cormorán de Cuello Negro, Gaviota Cocinera, Pato Vapor, Pato Crestón, Garza Blanca, Garza Bruja y Ostrero Común.
La llamada Isla de los Pájaros tiene la particularidad de que no es una isla a tiempo completo, sino solo con marea alta, ya que al bajar la marea, esta pequeña porción de tierra queda unida al continente.
Although it is possible to access the site on foot when the sea recedes, access is prohibited because it is a natural reserve whose objective is to preserve the biodiversity of the area.
This site is guarded by fauna rangers who, in addition to giving interesting talks to visitors, go around the site collecting data to analyze the habits of the different species, problems that may occur and, above all, to control the demography of the different species.
In order to access the site, a gravel road leads us right in front of the island where we find two constructions among which is the fauna rangers' house.
A pesar de contar con la posibilidad de acceder a pie cuando el mar se retira, su acceso está prohibido por tratarse de una reserva natural que tiene por objetivo preservar la biodiversidad existente en el lugar.
Este sitio está custodiado por guardafaunas quienes además de dar interesantes charlas a los visitantes, recorren el sitio relevando datos que sirven para analizar hábitos de las diferentes especies, problemáticas que pueden suceder y sobre todo para un control de la demografía de las diferentes especies.
Para poder acceder se debe recorrer un camino de ripio el cual nos lleva justo frente a la isla donde encontramos dos construcciones entre las cuales se encuentra la vivienda de los guardafaunas.
This site is so well known that many say that the aviator Antoine de Saitn-Exupéry, who wrote the book "The Little Prince", was inspired by the shape of this wonderful island when he drew the boa with the elephant inside. He lived in Argentina in the city of Concordia in the province of Entre Rios.
According to the story, he was in love with the landscapes of the south of our country and traveled to these places on several occasions.
Unfortunately, on the day of the visit there was a very strong wind that made there was soil in suspension, which did not help us to observe the island clearly. Nevertheless, we were able to enjoy and breathe the wonderful and pure Patagonian air.
Este sitio es tan conocido que muchos dicen que el aviador Antoine de Saitn-Exupéry autón del el libro "El Principito" cuando dibujó la boa con el elefante en su interior se inspiró en la forma de esta maravillosa isla. El vivió en la Argentina en la ciudad de Concordia en la provincia de Entre Ríos.
Según cuentan era un enamorado de los paisajes del sur de nuestro país y viajó en varias oportunidades hacia estos lares.
Lamentablemente el día de la visita había un viento muy fuerte que hizo que hubiese tierra en suspensión lo que no ayudo a poder observar de manera nítida la isla. A pesar de ello pudimos disfrutar y respirar de ese aire maravilloso y puro de la Patagonia.
This site is located near the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus, which is the narrowest point of the Peninsula and only 6 kilometers separate the waters of Golfo Nuevo and Golfo San José. Just at this geographical point there is a museum from which the coasts of both gulfs can be seen.
In the Isthmus there is a small museum where beyond exposing and explaining the diversity of flora and fauna that inhabit the area, they do it in a very nice way emphasizing the importance of preserving the area free of pollution. The ecological approach is wonderful, raising awareness among children and adults.
The museum facilities are impeccable despite its small size, it is modern and has a small room where children can learn about ecology through games, stories and drawings.
Este sitio se encuentra en cercanías del Itsmo Carlos Ameghino, que es el punto más estrecho de la Península y solo apenas 6 kilómetros separan las aguas del Golfo Nuevo y el Golfo San José. Justo en ese punto geográfico hay un museo del cual pueden verse las costas de ambos golfos.
En el Itsmo hay se ha construído un pequeño museo donde más allá de exponer y explicar la diversidad de flora y fauna que habitan la zona, lo hacen de una manera muy linda haciendo hincapié en la importancia de preservar la zona libre de contaminación. El enfoque ecológico que tiene es maravillosos, concientizando a niños y adultos.
Las instalaciones del museo son impecables a pesar de su pequeño tamaño es moderno y cuenta con una pequeña sala donde los más pequeños pueden aprender sobre ecología por medio de juegos, pequeños cuentos y dibujos.

Our country is so big and wonderful that many times we do not take dimension of it. Undoubtedly, it deserves to be traveled throughout its length and breadth and I am sure that wherever we go we will find wonderful landscapes.
I always saw this beautiful island through the binoculars from the tower of the museum of the Ameghino Isthmus, but we had never reached it. It is exciting and magical to be able to reach these places where it seems that human beings have not yet been able to cause major damage.

Cuando tengas la oportunidad de visitar este maravillosos sitio, no dudes de hacerlo, vendrás enamorado de los lugares que podrás conocer.
Nuestro país es tan grande y maravilloso que muchas veces no tomamos dimensión de ello. Sin dudas merece que lo recorramos a lo largo y a lo ancho y estoy seguro que a donde vayamos encontraremos maravillosos paisajes.
A esta hermosa isla siempre la veía por los binoculares desde la torre del museo del Itsmo Ameghino, pero nunca habíamos llegado hasta allí. Es emocionante y mágico poder llegar a estos lugares donde pareciera que aún el ser humano no pudo causar mayores daños.
