This is my first post in the community, and it is to tell you about my trip to Bolivia.
In the heart of South America, today's Bolivia is a mix of the current world with the historical one. It is a more than interesting tourist destination.
There I visited several cities and also Lake Titicaca. I am interested in its relationship with history, with the Inca empire. It is shocking to see how centuries-old tradition merges with the world of the 21st century.
The Inca Garcilaso de la Vega describes the origin of the Incas in Lake Titicaca. Oral traditions still consider the island of the Sun as the place from which Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo emerged to found the kingdom of Cuzco.
Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world, it is about 3800 meters above sea level. Its administration is shared between Bolivia and Peru.
The Island of the Sun is a Bolivian island located in Lake Titicaca. To visit it you have to start from the Bolivian city of Copacabana, located on the shores of Titicaca.
In Copacabana there is a boat service to get to the island. But with my group we arrived late at the pier and we lost it. If we didn't want to wait until the next day, we had the option of taking a private boat. So we did it, we agreed on the price with the owner of the boat and he took us to the island.
After an hour and a half of travel we arrived at the island.
It was a beautiful sunny day. The seagulls welcomed us by flying over the boat and landing on one of the docks.

En el corazón de América del Sur, la Bolivia actual es una mezcla del mundo actual con el histórico. Es un destino turístico más que interesante.
Allí visité varias ciudades y también el lago Titicaca. Me interesa por su relación con la historia, con el imperio Inca. Es impactante ver como se fusiona la tradición de siglos con el mundo del siglo XXI.
El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega describe el origen de los incas en el lago Titicaca. Las tradiciones orales aún consideran la isla del Sol como el lugar de donde emergieron Manco Capac y Mama Ocllo para fundar el reino del Cuzco.
El lago Titicaca es el lago navegable más alto del mundo, está a unos 3800 msnm. Su administración es compartida entre Bolivia y Perú.
La isla del Sol es una isla boliviana situada en el lago Titicaca. Para llegar a visitarla hay que partir desde la ciudad boliviana de Copacabana, situada a orillas del Titicaca.
En Copacabana hay un servicio de lanchas para llegar hasta la isla. Pero con mi grupo llegamos tarde al embarcadero y la perdimos. Si no queríamos esperar hasta el día siguiente, teníamos la opción de tomar un bote privado. Así lo hicimos, pactamos el precio con el dueño del bote y nos llevó hasta la isla.
Luego de una hora y media de viaje llegamos a la isla.
Era un hermoso día de sol. Las gaviotas nos daban la bienvenida sobrevolando el bote y posándose sobre uno de los muelles.
The Yumani community is there, they are the ones who receive tourism. I understand that in other sectors of the island there are other communities, but I did not have contact with them.
We had booked our accommodation online, so after paying for the boat, we stayed there waiting for them to come pick us up.
I like these contrasts, hiring accommodation online from my cell phone with a community descended from the ancient Incas.
While we were waiting we saw that there was a community assembly, they were resolving domestic issues, things about island life.
Allí se encuentra la comunidad Yumani, ellos son los que reciben el turismo. Tengo entendido que en otros sectores de la isla se encuentran otras comunidades, pero no tuve contacto con ellas.
Habíamos contratado por internet nuestro alojamiento, así que luego de pagar el bote, quedamos allí esperando que nos vengan a recoger.
Me gustan estos contrastes, contratar un alojamiento por internet desde mi celular con una comunidad descendiente de los antiguos incas.
Mientras esperábamos vimos que había una asamblea de la comunidad, estaban resolviendo cuestiones domésticas, cosas de la vida de la isla.
A few minutes later the owner of the accommodation arrived with two donkeys. He explained to us that to get to the place we had to go up the only path there was, impossible to get lost. The highest point of the island is about 250 meters above lake level, where the town is located.
Did you have to climb all those steps with your luggage?! No, that's what the donkeys that came with the man were for. They tied our luggage to their backs with ropes and climbed the hill happily! I was sad to see them, but they didn't seem to mind, in fact they reached the top long before us!
A los pocos minutos llegó el dueño del alojamiento con dos burros. Nos explicó que para llegar al lugar debíamos subir por el único camino que había, imposible perderse. El punto más alto de la isla es a unos 250 metros sobre el nivel del lago, allí se encuentra el poblado.
Había que subir todos esos escalones con el equipaje?! No, para eso estaban los burros que vinieron con el señor. Le amarraron a sus lomos con sogas nuestro equipaje y subieron la cuesta alegremente! Me daba pena verlos, pero a ellos no parecía molestarles, de hecho llegaron a la cima mucho antes que nosotros!
As I was going up, I was resting, I was out of breath. The views were wonderful, but the way up was very exhausting.
Walking along that path we crossed paths with some farmers and some children who were going to school.
We also saw the people who were in the assembly on the shore of the lake.
Mientras iba subiendo, iba descansando, me faltaba el aire. Las vistas eran maravillosas, pero muy agotador el camino hacia arriba.
Caminando por ese sendero nos cruzamos con algunos agricultores y con unos niños que iban a la escuela.
También vimos a las personas que estaban en la asamblea a la orilla del lago.
Getting to the top was incredible, wonderful scenery. Our suitcases were already there and the donkeys were grazing peacefully. They had already taken the suitcases off their backs and were already in the rooms.
Llegar a la cima fue increíble, un paisaje maravilloso. Nuestras valijas ya estaban allí y los burros pastando tranquilamente. Ya les habían quitado las maletas de sus lomos y ya estaban en las habitaciones.
As soon as we arrived we went for a walk around the hostel and I was able to take photographs of the town and the hostel.
Apenas llegamos fuimos a caminar por los alrededores del hostal y pude tomar fotografías del poblado y del hostal.
