It's definitely summer in the Philippines.🌞You don't want to be out for long in the sun at midday; you'll probably get heatstroke at any rate.
But yeah, I get it. When the sun is out shining like never before, it's the best time to hop into an adventure of a lifetime, too. If you're trying to avoid getting sunburns but still want to somehow travel. I got the thing you need right now: a virtual beach tour.
Sounds fun? 🤔
Nightlife at a Vegan Restaurant
After a fun island hopping day and watching the fiery sunset in Malapascua Island, GB and I were hungry to taste something that only Malapascua could offer. We didn't plan anything aside from the island hopping, even where to eat was left to chance.
Not far away from where we're staying, we found this place called Villa Sandra's Guesthouse which according to their signage serves vegan food. We were beyond hungry at this point so we checked out the place right there and then.
Turned out it's one of the places you'd want to be at nighttime in Malapascua; it was all dark outside but inside, it was oozing with a spectacular island vibe. The moment we stepped in, I knew I was on an island far from any trace of life's cruelty.
We ordered one of their vegan dishes but I couldn't remember the exact dish. 🥺 What I do remember was it's surprisingly delicious!
A simple place
We stayed at a simple inn called Romantic Place Guesthouse. It's nothing fancy really but it's equipped with basic air-conditioned rooms with their own comfort rooms, two swimming pools, free breakfast for two, and a quiet environment perfect for travelers who seek tranquility. Plus, the price was on point for us who travel on a tight budget. Since located at the heart of the island, you won't hear the relaxing sound of crashings waves or check out the cerulean ocean from here. That's just the downside!
Breakfast by the pool. 🥰
No bounty for discovering Bounty Beach? 🤔
After breakfast, what was left to do was explore the southern end of Malapascua which we failed to check out during the first day of our visit. Armored by our phone cameras, sunscreens, our water bottle, and sheer determination to find something worth spending our remaining hours in Malapascua, we explored the island on foot.
It was a freaking hot day during our visit but with the heat comes the beach glow we were craving at that time. This trip was in 2021 when Covid-related travel restrictions eased out. Imagine not having explored for so long then finally this! We were just hungry for beach time. 🥺
We were welcomed by flocks of tourists enjoying their day at the beach; there was a handful of them but not as many as pre-Covid, I supposed. And that's something I like, fewer tourists, less crowd, peaceful time wherever we went. Some were already checking out the irresistible crystal-clean water while others were trying to get their skin tanned. I know Southeast Asians are already tan but who cares, right? I personally don't want to get another shade darker so as much as possible, I find shade and apply lots for sunscreens!
It's amazing to see many hotels and inns lining up by the beachfront (Southern end of Malapascua); I told myself that should I have researched better, we could have stayed here and enjoyed the breathtaking view of the beach the moment we woke up. But too late for this realization tho! 🤣
We were keen to find a spot where there was enough shade to protect us while we dip on the beach. I personally thought the beachfront near the hotels were for the exclusive use of their guests so we walked further to the south until we reached this crowd-free spot with a couple of huge trees.
It was the perfect spot for morning relaxation and soul rejuvenation. 🥰
We had the quiet time we were looking for that morning. I'm just glad we wandered off Malapascua for the entire morning and found this gem. Of course, if you know me, I won't waste a paradise like this and go back to the city without taking advantage of the place. I asked GB to take photos of me and he was happy (I hope he was! HAHA 🤣) to oblige.
Here are some of the photos from that morning's photoshoot!
If there's one thing I'm pretty sure about that is we wanted to spend more time in Malapascua but we had to cut the trip short; we had to catch one of the earlier trips back to mainland Cebu so we would be home before nighttime; work was calling the following day. We quickly ate lunch in an eatery in their public market and went back for our final glimpse of Malapascua's untamed beauty. Then we headed back to the inn, got changed, and went straight to the port.
I don't usually allot a free day when traveling; my days are usually packed with activities lined up to ensure I get the best of the places I'm exploring but that day, I'm beyond grateful to have spent a spontaneous day with the love of my life. It's worth it and I'd gladly do it again (just not often haha 🤣)!
That's a wrap for our Malapascua Island escapade, I've shared with you all of this trip's stories; except for those that should be left unknown to many! 🤔😁😂 We'll be visiting another island or province in my next posts. See yah! 😊
