This is the last part about my visit to Warsaw. It remains to be explained what I actually did in the Polish Capital and why I came here for the weekend. Sightseeing in this beautiful city was, of course, a nice addition to my weekend getaway. However, the purpose of my visit was a tournament in darts - darts.
A little history of this game.
It is a game that uses small darts to throw at a circular disc hung on the wall. Over the years, different targets and different rules have been used, today the rules are better specified and the target is mostly the same. Shields are usually made of sisal fiber.
Sisal - is a perennial plant that grows in tropical climates. The fibers are very strong and hard. They are extracted by hand or hand-semi-mechanical method as soon as the plant is cut down, because then it is easiest. The main producer of sisal is Brazil. In addition to discs, it is used to make ropes, bags, mats, etc.
Dart is a professional sport and a local pastime most popular in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, the United States, but in recent years it has been gaining popularity in other countries.
It is not entirely clear who invented the game and when. The idea itself was derived from a cross section of wood, according to some historical records, while others say that the first dartboards were the bottoms of wine barrels, as the game's first name, butts, would indicate. Various historical references suggest that the sport was started by warriors who, bored during breaks between battles, threw short arrows at a cut tree trunk. Fairly quickly, the first regional rules appeared, and carpenters, seeing opportunities to make money, began producing boards for local pubs. The game was rapidly gaining public popularity. The game developed most rapidly in the British counties of Staffordshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire.

Jest to ostatnia część dotycząca mojej wizyty w Warszawie. Pozostaje kwestia do wyjaśnienia, co właściwie robiłem w Stolicy Polski i po co tutaj przyjechałem na weekend. Zwiedzanie tego pięknego miasta było oczywiście miłym dodatkiem do weekendowego wypadu. Jednakże celem mojej wizyty był turniej w darta – lotki.
Trochę historii tej gry.
Jest to gra, w której używa się małych lotek do rzucania w okrągłą tarczę zawieszoną na ścianie. Przez lata korzystano z różnych tarcz i różnych zasad, dzisiaj zasady są lepiej sprecyzowane, a tarcza w większości przypadków taka sama. Tarcze zazwyczaj są wykonane z włókna sizalowego. Sizal – jest to roślina wieloletnia, która rośnie w klimacie tropikalnym. Włókna są bardzo wytrzymałe i twarde. Pozyskuje się je metodą ręczną lub ręczno-półmechaniczną od razu po ścięciu rośliny, ponieważ wtedy jest to najłatwiejsze. Głównym producentem sizalu jest Brazylia. Prócz tarcz wykonuje się z niego liny, worki, maty itp.
Dart jest profesjonalnym sportem oraz lokalną rozrywką najbardziej popularną w Wielkiej Brytanii, Irlandii, Holandii, Stanach Zjednoczonych, ale w ostatnich latach zyskuje coraz większą popularność w innych krajach. Nie jest do końca jasne kto i kiedy wymyślił tę grę. Sam pomysł był zaczerpnięty od przekroju poprzecznego drewna, jak podają jedne zapiski historyczne, inne natomiast mówią, że pierwszym tablicami do darta były spody beczek od wina, co wskazywałaby pierwsza nazwa gry – butts. Różne historyczne wzmianki sugerują, że sport ten zapoczątkowali wojownicy, którzy znudzeni podczas przerw między bitwami rzucali krótkimi strzałami w przecięty pień drzewa. Dość szybko pojawiły się pierwsze regionalne zasady, a stolarze, widząc szanse na zarobek, zaczęli produkować tablice do lokalnych pubów. Gra szybko zyskiwała na popularności społeczeństwa. Najszybciej gra się rozwijała w brytyjskich hrabstwach Staffordshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire.

This was the first such event organized in Poland with the participation of top athletes from around the world. Many outstanding athletes including world champions came. The atmosphere in the stadium was great, and I'll admit frankly that I did not expect such a boisterous event. The stadium was filled to the brim. It was not only in my opinion that the competition went superbly, because the authorities a few days after the event ended announced that next year the event is coming back to Poland. The tournament lasted two days.
In my case, my interest in dart began 3 years ago, during the pandemic. When most people were locked up at home and had to look for entertainment to kill time, similarly, my wife and I were watching TV, switching channels one by one looking for something interesting. That's how we came across our first TV tournament, and we liked it so much that it has stayed with us to this day. At least I have some nice thing from that strange period :).

Była to pierwsza tego typu impreza zorganizowana w Polsce z udziałem najlepszych sportowców z całego świata. Przybyło wielu znakomitych zawodników w tym mistrzów świata. Atmosfera na stadionie była świetna i przyznam szczerze, że nie spodziewałem się, aż takiego hucznej imprezy. Stadion był wypełniony po brzegi. Nie tylko według mojej opinii zawody udały się rewelacyjnie, ponieważ włodarze kilka dni po zakończonej imprezie zapowiedzieli, że w przyszłym roku impreza wraca do Polski. Turniej trwał dwa dni.
W moim przypadku zainteresowanie dartem zaczęło się 3 lata temu, podczas pandemii. Kiedy większość ludzi była pozamykana w domach i musiała szukać sobie rozrywek dla zabicia czasu, podobnie my z żoną oglądaliśmy telewizje, przełączając kanały po kolei szukając czegoś ciekawego. Takim oto sposobem natrafiliśmy na nasz pierwszy telewizyjny turniej i tak nam się spodobało, że zostało z nami to do dziś. Przynajmniej mam jakąś miłą rzecz z tamtego dziwnego okresu :).

A legendary middle-class passenger car on Polish roads, which, thanks to a licensing agreement, could be produced in Poland at the Automobile Factory (FSO) in Warsaw from 1967 to 1991.
