In today's article I thought I'd tell you about Merano, a beautiful spa town located in the heart of South Tyrol.
Unfortunately, most people know it only for the talk related to the spas, in fact we must remember that in Merano there are spas that are fantastic, but in this article I also want to talk about what is around the city.
In the meantime, we must start from the fact that Merano has historical roots that go back a long way, It is a beautiful town in South Tyrol and has about 40,000 inhabitants who are still a good number, it is a mix of different cultures because over the years people from all over the world have come to this place.
In recent years many people have arrived here for work reasons and because in this region it is better than in other Italian regions, this being a completely autonomous region therefore able to manage both taxes and services.
As we can see from the photos, the historic center is completely medieval and has preserved this aspect over time, It is surrounded by quite high mountains and it is said that here there is practically always sun in fact, according to a popular saying that the sun is there for 300 days a year.
The day he visited it I felt a bit cloudy to tell the truth, but it is true that in any case there is never so cold in this place unlike other places in South Tyrol.
Surely one of the main attractions of the city, is to take a walk along its characteristic streets and its particular arcades that frame, this is how you can see the real life that takes place in this city and maybe stop in some typical shop to buy some local products such as the famous speck that is produced nearby.
There are many churches and many historic buildings to visit or to admire from the outside.
You absolutely must not forget to pay a visit to the famous botanical gardens wanted by Princess Sissi who often came here on vacation.
It is very pleasant to walk in the midst of all this greenery and every now and then when you find a free bench, it is nice to sit and admire the view in front of us.
In fact, most of the walks, which you find around the city, had already been built around 1800, for the numerous guests including many aristocrats who came on holiday in the city of Merano.
But do not come here in the summer, because even if we are close to these mountains which are about 3000 meters high, here it is very hot and therefore I recommend that you come in spring or autumn when the color of the trees changes.
The most important tourist attraction that takes place here in Merano is the characteristic Christmas market, which takes place in December and which is also beautiful to visit.
