The churches of Portugal tell many stories and most of the churches are very well preserved, as our culture wants to keep our forefathers alive, regardless of whether they are Catholic or not. We are a country with the majority of the Catholic population but we have a lot of respect for all religions and for those who do not, because each one is free to choose what is ideal for them.
If you visit my country, Portugal will find that in all cities and towns there is a church. The older Portuguese population has quite a culture of going to church, the younger people start not to join so much, but even so there is still a large percentage of young people who are Catholics.
We have the majority of churches with old architecture, but now construction of new churches with a more modern design begins to appear.
One thing I like to appreciate in churches is the details and the symbolism that surrounds this culture. It is interesting to understand the history and meaning of each object.
Most churches are quite tall, few are small. In all of them there are large bells in which all the hours signal with their sound.
When visiting Portugal, enter at least one church to see its interior and look for a brochure, as normally the churches that are most visited have a role with the history of the monument.
The church is a sacred place for many, so whenever you enter do not make too much noise and respect the place.
