The Water Palace of East Bali

in Pinmapple15 days ago

When I first stepped into the area of o the Water Temple, I was surprised by how many people were visiting. The water temple, built in around 1940s, has developed a lot in the past few years. The place was more quiet back then with only a few visitors. Now the place has developed, but it is even more serene and beautiful.

The Main Pools

The water source of this Tirta Gangga Water Palace is a spring located in northern side near a huge banyan tree. The water is channeled into several pools or ponds. The most popular pool is the one to the right of the entrance gate. This pool has concrete steps on the water where people can hop from one step to another to walk around the pool without getting wet.

'Walking' on the pool and feeding the fish.

That was me on the right.

Next to this pool, there was a smaller pool with a quite high carved stone multi tiered fountain in its center, surrounded by stone statues of Balinese Hindu gods. The fountain has nine tiers, each tier emitting water from it.

Next, there is a public bathing or swimming pool that get less attention of those visitors. With its crystal clear and fresh water, the pool is a perfect place to plunge in. There were two local girls swimming in the pool.

Next, adjacent to the pool is pool with ornate bridges that split the pool into two sections. There were a lot of colorful koi fish in the pools. In fact, all the pools have fish, including the swimming pool 😂 (it has less fish, though).

The Temple on North Side

Well, as there were many people in the first pool, we (my clients and I) continued to walk to the inner side, passing all the pools. There were a lot of stone statues in there. First, there was the Barong statues, followed by Rangda statues. These statues are symbol of good and evil in Balinese culture.

The statue of Rangda, the evil witch, symbolizes evil.

Next, there are six statues in one corner. These are statues of representation of gods and demon.

In between those statues, I saw some beautiful ponds with decorative plants in it. One pond has plants that look like banana trees, other pond has lotus flowers in it.

And finally, the temple of the holy spring, located on the north, has pool inside it. This is solely for the Balinese who pray and conduct spiritual cleansing ritual. The temple is closed (for visitors), but you can see the big banyan tree towering about 15 meter high near the entrance of the temple.

We walked in the front side of the temple, circling back to where the entrance. That ended our memorable visit to the Tirta Gangga Water Temple.
