Greetings, hiveans. I continue a series of posts about St.Petersburg places of intrests. 'North Venice' is an alternative title of the city I live in. We do not have channels here, but the city have post).
We do not have any canals, but the city has almost completely preserved the historical districts, with compact buildings, which is why it is interesting, and this is what tourists come here for (and not justdbrb for the sake of visiting museums and imperial palaces).
Yes, in case you don't know much about Russian history - St. Petersburg from 1703 to 1917 was the capital of the Russian Empire, then the Bolsheviks moved the capital to Moscow, which of course is also an interesting place to visit - but its completely different ... an old fat merchant town ... with the Kremlin :)
So, the topic of our today's lecture ... that is, a walk will be a cemetery. There are several old historical cemeteries in the city, and the Necropolis of the Novodevichy Convent is not the oldest of them, and not the best ... and not the best preserved. But it is conveniently (for me personally) located, and I have often walked there over the years.
At the same time, I take different lenses with me, I find myself there at different times of the year, and at different times of the day. Therefore, each walk is a new and unique look at the same points and objects, and a unique set of photographs. For more than a year now, I have been planning to write several posts with a story about the tragic fate of this place. But I'm just a snail that crawls up Mount Fuji.
The photos I selected for today's post were taken in November 2019 (and I posted several of them on the previous blockchain as part of my #WednesdayWalk. That evening I carried a 16mm Zenitar fisheye lens, a very interesting lens for artistic photography.
Like most church buildings, the monastery was badly damaged during the years of Soviet power, some of its parts were completely destroyed without the possibility of restoration.
Now its stuck between other residential and business buildings.
The necropolis suffered especially badly - it can be said without exaggeration that for the most part it was wiped off the face of the earth. Alas. However, in this decline, too, you can find your charm and themes for photography ...

definitely, this lens just helps you with this super open wide-angle to bring the whole envirenment.
It's very strange that they didn't convert the monastery to some army vehicles or weapons warehouse.

I actually love walking through old graveyards. Perhaps that sounds creepy, but, from an architectural/historical/artistic point of view, they are absolutely stunning. Even the ones that happened to be unmaintained are beautiful.
I find they are so peaceful, I walk through and perhaps say a prayer or three. This is a wonderful visual @qwerrie ! Thank you. I'll be taking you home with me. :)
