Located on a hill not far from Leh, the capital of Ladakh and it is the largest monastery in central part of the region.
Generally Ladakh is a region on a very high attitude and this particular Monastery is on a whopping 3600 meters high from the sea level. To be honest, it is requires quite an adaptation when you fly to Ladakh and some people may fee strong headache and other symptoms for the first day. So have to be quite careful

Just to mention that its history starts coming back to 1433.
Nowadays it is a largest such structure in central Ladakh with building arranged in ascending order of importance down the hill
