This is What An Australian Camp Site Can Look Like

in Pinmapple3 months ago

A few years ago we camped at Jamieson River on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. There were a handful of camps and no services. Then it mysteriously shut. Had they shut it for good? Was there a landslide? Why couldn't we access the track beyond?

Today we drove through to check it and wow! THIS is what a National Park campsite can look like, and we seriously think it has one of the best views on the coast. I mean, imagine a house with a view like this?

There's about twenty sites now, both for cars and tents. There's free fire pits.

There's even brand new gas barbecues. Yep. That's an Aussie thing and they are FREE.

There's two shelters with tables - one under which someone has set up a hammock.

There's gorgeous stones cut into benches to admire the incredible view.

You can camp there by booking on Parks Victoria here - but good luck finding a spot in the busy times, includng weekends! For example, this weekend is ENTIRELY booked! It's a popular spot.

However, we drove up the 4x4 track beyond, up a huge hill that conventional vehicles can't go. There's a heap of spots you could camp, but shouldn't - there's signs along the way saying no camping, and no fires. But seriously, we found probably one of the best spots we've thought of illegal camping around here ever - what an incredible view. THe overcoast weather doesn't do it justice, of course. But still - wow.

We're hoping we can look ahead and book a spot in the future. At 16 bucks a night, that's pretty cheap. It might be easier to get a spot mid week after the school holidays.

With Love,

Absolutely beautiful! But camping? In Australia? You must have nerves of steel!

Why???

All us non-Australians here about is how everything in Australias wildlife is super venomous, poidoness or aggressive 😂 obviously, it's one of those things that's grosely over exaggerated in memes.

Aha the place looks so beautiful, thanks for sharing mam. Good day 🙏😊

the view of the sea with the mountains was very beautiful

The Jamieson River is an inland river in Victoria, Australia. The river rises in Alpine National Park and flows into the Goulburn River at the town of Jamieson. Its tributaries are Jamieson River north branch and Jamieson River south branch. Absolutely beautiful 😍

Nope. Different place but thanks for using your Chat GTP skills..

Nice place for camping. I really want to try overnight camping but toilets are one of my concerns.

There's toilets there.

ahhh that’s nice.

Just look at the mountains over there. they look beautiful:

Can you see the ocean as well? It's actually an ocean road cut into the cliffs tiu can see.

Yes I see that.😲😲😲

This place look so cool 😎😎 I'm only scared from the snakes warning ⚠️⚠️

Hahah as Australians you know to look out for them and they aren't too common to see.

Breathtaking view!

Indeed. Every time I see this road I can't believe how beautiful it is.

Not too shabby and fair prizes although free camping is even nicer ;^)

Isn't is supposed to be Mid-Summer there? How has the weather been so far?

Sending a hug from the soon agreeable-Spring-weathery Portugese countryside

💚

Beautiful campsite. It looks like a great place to decompress. Except for the danger noodles. I don't know what would be worse, a bear going berserk in your tent or a venomous snake slithering into your sleeping bag 😄

So beautiful to behold! Thanks for sharing.

Hmmmmm... looks idyllic!

I came to say:

River
River?
River?!
River!!

I'm gonna start Yoga again today! :D

But I got stuck into catching up, the wind has dropped and must go swimming! Can't miss it because it's pretty stormy here every day :| Must be the windiest village in the WC.

Which sucks.

Brb

p.s. Glad you got some camping and nature in :)
