Trial Harbour , A Waterfall, And Beach Driving

in Pinmapplelast year

After a short punt across the river at Corinna and a short stop for veggies and fuel at large mining town of Zeehan, we head eight km down a dirt track to the next seaside town.

Trial Harbour has a small free camp and we manage to squeeze in. We have found so many people in these camps willing to make room as everyone is there to enjoy the place rather than party, so no one minds being close. Still, you are better off arriving early.

We run into the Landrover crew we met in Marrawah and decide to go do a 4WD track with them in the morning. They'd done the notorious Climies track which ends (or begins, depending on which way you are headed) which runs across the cliffs. I'm still glad we didn't do it, especially with what will happen the following day, but, that's another story. You can see we made it to the entrance below, though!

At the base of our camp there was a beach waterfall which we showered in. Very cold but delicious after a hot dusty drive.

We set up the awning as it was unusually still. Locals and those that holidayed there often tell us it's very rarely that still here and nor is the ocean, although it will keep us awake that night as it is right outside our window.

The view from the hill above our camp is amazing.

We speak to some young guys who go fishing for salmon and cray fishing. Most Tassie folk are so darn friendly.

In the morning we head down the beach away to see what it's like. Following our new mate in the Discovery, Levi, a French Guanian man who lives in Queensland, we stupidly take the same sharp turn down a rocky path to the beach and dent our long range fuel tank. Lesson learnt.

It's bloody lovely though. There's a few young crew camped on the edge of a river by the dunes. We were too worried about the sand to drive it ourselves and it IS scarily soft. When it rains it's the water rushing under the sand out to sea you have to worry about, and people lose vehicles here every year so we are right to worry.

Still, it's nothing on what anxiety the day will bring at Montezuma Falls, but that's another story.

With Love,

I've camped a few times at Trial harbour and yes it was windy, travelled climies track a few times it's got some magnificent scenery. Glad you had a good time there.

I hope the tank was just dented and isn’t leaking....

The view from above of your site set up is gorgeous!

Oh it's not leaking, guess they made them tough enough!

Camping is one of the outdoor activities I'd love to try someday!
